Dry Sink Project Redefines A Classic This Version Can Be Used As Storage Or A Display Piece To Complement Any Room

Don And Dave Runyan U-Bild Features

Based on originals found throughout New England during the 19th century, this dry sink reproduction is as handsome and practical as its Yankee predecessors. While the originals were used to hold a wash basin, this do-it-yourself version redefines that classic design as a storage and display unit that looks great in any room of the house.

In the kitchen, it’s perfect for table linens or dishes, and it makes a great sideboard or bar in the dining room. In the family room, use it for videotapes, CDs or games and fill the top with potted plants. A handsome addition wherever it’s used, the project is indistinguishable from expensive antique originals.

A good, basic cabinet project for most woodworkers, the dry sink calls for mostly straight cuts. Full-size traceable patterns are provided for any curved cuts. Building the project is a simple matter of gluing up and surfacing the pine stock, tracing (where necessary), cutting out and assembling the pieces and finishing as desired.

The Dry Sink plan, No. 774, is $7.95 and includes complete step-by-step directions, full-size traceable patterns, an exploded diagram and a shopping list and cutting schedule.

If you want to make a great companion piece for the dry sink, a package of three old-fashioned ice boxes, No. C58, is $18.95 and includes plans for one-, two- and three-door oak ice boxes. A catalog picturing hundreds of do-it-yourself projects is $3.95. Prices include postage and handling. Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery (for rush delivery, add $1 per item up to $3 maximum and allow about one week).
