Idaho Heritage Trust Awards Local Projects

The Idaho Heritage Trust is awarding money to four historic preservation projects in the Panhandle.

The awards were among $140,000 in grants and architectural assistance the trustees committed when they met Wednesday in Boise, according to executive director Gaetha Pace.

The nonprofit group decided to give:

$5,000 for work on Sandpoint’s Panida Theater;

$4,500 toward restoration of the Wallace Public Library;

$1,000 toward restoration of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Mullan;

$1,000 to repair the John Mullan statue in Post Falls.

Major awards included the $10,000 1997 Glenn Janss Award for Exemplary Work in Preserving Idaho’s Heritage was given to the Log Cabin Library Center in Boise.

Also, $7,500 from the Washington Water Power Endowment was given to the Latah County Library District for the preservation of St. Joseph’s Church in Bovill as a community library.

In September, the trustees awarded $1,700 to assist in roofing the Settlement School near Priest River. , DataTimes
