Bruins Recover From Rout By Ripping Uaa, 92-68

J.R. Henderson scored 21 points as No. 7 UCLA rebounded from a humiliating defeat to beat Alaska Anchorage 92-68 Friday in the second round of the Great Alaska Shootout in Anchorage.

The Bruins, who lost to North Carolina by 41 points on Thursday, overpowered the Division II Seawolves (4-2).

Baron Davis scored 20 points and Toby Bailey had 15 for UCLA (1-1), which led by 39 points midway through the third quarter.

Clay Anderson paced Anchorage with 14 points.

The Seawolves were outrebounded 41-30, outshot 53 percent to 43 percent and committed 24 turnovers to UCLA’s 15.

UCLA opened the game with a 15-4 run, including 11 points by Bailey. Davis took over when Bailey sat, scoring 16 points in the half.

Five freshmen played most of the second quarter for UCLA.

Freshman guard Khalid El-Amin rebounded from a poor outing in the Preseason NIT semifinals by scoring 29 points in the third-place game as the Huskies (5-1) pounded the Sun Devils (3-2) in New York.

The 5-foot-10 El-Amin, who was 3 for 18 from the field in the Huskies’ 67-60 loss to Florida State on Wednesday, was 11 for 18 against ASU.

(15) Stanford 98, Hawaii-Hilo 49

At Hilo, Hawaii, the Cardinal used a 22-3 advantage in the third quarter and a 32-14 run in the fourth to advance to the semifinals of the Big Island Invitational.
