Idaho Boy Drowns In Reservoir

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 17-year-old Idaho boy drowned Saturday afternoon while trying to save a friend’s dog from Unity Reservoir.

The body of LeRoy Wayne Williams was pulled from the water by divers about 9 p.m., police said.

Williams and a friend, Rodney Seiber - both of Parma, Idaho - were fishing near the spillway at Unity Dam when Seiber’s dog jumped in to swim. Seiber urged Williams not to go in after the black Labrador retriever, but the boy ignored several “danger” signs in the area and went in anyway, police said.

Another eyewitness, Luis Gonzales of Ontario, said Williams was swimming strongly, but the rushing water from the spillway pushed him into a concrete wall. The dog survived the incident.
