Lettie Schwanz Spokane

Memorial service for Lettie E. Schwanz, 76, will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Schwanz, who was born in Klamath Falls, Ore., died Saturday.

She graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in dietetics in 1943.

Mrs. Schwanz received her master’s degree in dietetics from Iowa State University and a physical therapy degree from Stanford University.

She moved to Spokane in 1950 to work at St. Luke’s Hospital as a physical therapist.

In 1951 she married William Schwanz.

Mrs. Schwanz was a member of the Parent-Teacher Association, Citizens Advisory Commission for Elderly and Handicapped Transportation, Advisory Council of the Eastern Washington Area Agency on Aging and the Young Women’s Christian Association.

She was also active with Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Presbytery of Inland Northwest and the Presbyterian Synod of the Northwest and Alaska.

Her husband died in 1997.

Survivors include two sons, Daniel Schwanz of Spokane and Thomas Schwanz of Bothell, Wash.; and a grandson.

Edith Kallenberger Spokane

Graveside funeral service for Edith Elvia Kallenberger, 79, will be at 2 p.m. today at Spokane Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Kallenberger, who was born in Lamont, Wash., died Sunday.

She graduated from Lamont High School in 1936 and married Oscar Kallenberger in Lamont in 1941.

Mrs. Kallenberger earned a teaching certificate and taught for two years in Marlin, Wash.

She and her husband farmed in Lamont until 1949, and in 1950 they moved to Tyler, Wash., where they had a cattle ranch until 1963.

In 1965 they moved to Milton-Freewater, Ore., and in 1995 to Spokane.

Her husband died last year. She was a 50-year member of the Lamont Grange and the Sprague Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a member of the M2K&D dance band in Lamont and the Sunshine Dance Band in Milton-Freewater.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Donna Swannack of St. John, Wash., and Ida Schorzman of Marlin; and several nieces and nephews.

Victor Driver Spokane

Memorial service for Victor Lee Glen Driver, 19, was Monday at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Cremation Society is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Driver, who was a lifetime resident of Spokane, was found dead April 13 in a burned car north of Newman Lake.

He worked as a cook.

Mr. Driver is survived by his wife, Brandy; a son, Austen Glen of Post Falls; his mother, Linda Preston of Spokane; his father, Daniel Driver of Newman Lake; two sisters, Monica Metz and Jennifer Herman, both of Spokane; and a brother, Daniel Driver Jr. of Newman Lake.

Edith Gina Spokane

Memorial service for Edith V. Gina, 85, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gina, who was born in Cleveland, died Tuesday.

She moved to Spokane from Florida in the late 1980s. She volunteered at Holy Family Hospital and enjoyed the Adult Day Health Center.

Mrs. Gina was a homemaker. Survivors include a daughter, Florence Carrico of Spokane; and a granddaughter.

Mabel McGraw Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Service for Mabel Edith McGraw, 91, will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Bonners Ferry Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry.

Mrs. McGraw, who was born in Nebraska, died Sunday.

She grew up and graduated from high school in Nebraska in 1926 and was a farmer before moving to Bonners Ferry in 1935.

She was a farmer in the North Bench area near Bonners Ferry until moving to the Boundary Community Restorium in 1996.

Mrs. McGraw was a member of the Busy Bee Club for more than 60 years.

Her husband, Don, died in 1996.

Mrs. McGraw is survived by five children, Bob McGraw of Bonners Ferry, Harold McGraw of California, Jerry McGraw of Camas, Wash., Donna Dotson of Spokane and Norma Robertson of Bonners Ferry; a sister, Alice Wade of Nebraska; 19 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Arta Grow Boise

Service for Arta Lucile Grow, 87, will be held at a later date in Post Falls. Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls. AldenWaggoner Chapel in Boise is in charge of cremation arrangements.

Mrs. Grow, who was born in Boise, died Friday.

She was raised and attended schools in Boise, graduating from Boise High School.

In 1929, she married Cecil W. Grow, and they lived in Boise until 1954.

She moved to Spokane, where she lived for 20 years.

Mrs. Grow moved to Post Falls in 1974 before returning to Boise in 1984.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include three daughters, Patricia Rupe of Boise, Carol Knapp of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Marilyn Nally of Spokane,; one brother, Robert Carter of Boise; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Joyce (Densow) Sherwood Spokane

Funeral for Joyce Roberta (Densow) Sherwood, 73, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Sherwood, who was born in Wilbur, Wash., died Sunday.

She graduated from Wilbur High School in 1942 and worked from 1946 to 1948 for Charles Aten Law Office in Wilbur.

In 1946 she married Marvin Sherwood in Seattle and in 1958 moved to Spokane.

Mrs. Sherwood later worked for the Federal Intermediate Credit Bank until her retirement in 1982.

She was a 48-year member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Mary Jones of Spokane; two sisters, DeLaine Wardenaar of Oak Harbor, Wash., and Norma Martin of Wilbur; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Educational Program or Emmanuel Presbyterian Church.

Leslie ‘Les’ Hart Spokane

Private graveside services for Leslie W. “Les” Hart, 86, will be held at Spokane Memorial Gardens at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Hart, who was a 60-year resident of Spokane, died Sunday.

He was born in Joliette, N.D., and served with the Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Hart retired in Spokane from the Postal Service and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, Pembina Masonic Lodge No. 2, North Hill Masonic Lodge No. 210 and the Men’s Garden Club.

He is survived by a brother, Robert Hart of Grand Forks, N.D.

Lillian Johnson Deer Park

Funeral for Lillian Beatrice Johnson, 77, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Deer Park. Burial will follow at the Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Johnson, who was born in Marion, Ill., died Sunday.

In 1942 she married William Johnson Jr. in Columbia, S.C., and was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Deer Park.

Mrs. Johnson moved to Deer Park 15 years ago from Auburn, Wash.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Steve Johnson of Auburn, William Johnson III of Independence, Mo., and Robert Johnson of Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters, Beverly Wooldridge of Coos Bay, Ore., and Judy and Rebecca Johnson, both of Independence; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Crites Athol, Idaho

Graveside service for Kenneth Eugene Crites, 69, will be held later in South Solon, Ohio. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. Crites, who was born in Ohio, died Monday.

He grew up in Ohio and served with the Marine Corps during World War II.

Mr. Crites moved to California in 1955 and began a career in flooring installation.

He retired in 1997 and moved to North Idaho.

Survivors include a son, Rick Crites of Allyn, Wash.; a daughter, Karen Lynn of Athol; two brothers, Bob and David Crites, both of California; two sisters, Betty Poffenberger of Ohio and Pauline Grimes of Spokane; and five grandchildren.

John Thompson Spokane

No service will be held for John M. Thompson, 79, at his request. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thompson, who was born in Southwick, Idaho, died Monday.

He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1937 and from Lewiston State Normal College in 1939.

Mr. Thompson served with the Army Air Corps during World War II and moved to Spokane from Lewiston in 1956.

He retired in 1980 from Seven Up Bottling Co. after 20 years of employment.

Survivors include his wife, Grace; two sons, Terry Thompson of Troy, Mont., and Richard Thompson of Spokane; three sisters, Ethel Graham of Spokane, Lucille Ficken of California and Violet Sheneman of Lewiston; and a grandson.

Emma Smick Spokane

Memorial service for Emma A. Smick, 91, will be at 3 p.m. today at the Central Seventh Day Adventist Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Smick, who was a 75-year resident of Spokane, died Thursday.

She was born in Odessa, Wash., and was a member of the Central Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Mrs. Smick was a homemaker.

She is survived by a son, E. Vern Lambert of Spokane; a sister, Clara Ramelow of Millwood; a brother, Ben Esslinger of Spokane; four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Elmer Thomas Spokane

Graveside service for Elmer E. Thomas, 86, will be at 10 a.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thomas, who was born in Minnesota, died Friday.

He served with the Army and later in the merchant marine during World War II.

Mr. Thomas worked as a bartender and as a restaurant and food service worker.

He moved to Spokane 15 years ago.

He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Survivors include two brothers, Ralph Thomas of Minnesota and Joe Gihl of Port Orchard, Wash.; and two sisters, Stella Hautala of Spokane and Marie Saari of Minnesota.

Ruby Young Junction City, Ore.

Visitation for Ruby L. Young, 87, will be from 10 a.m. to noon today at Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home in Junction City. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Young, who was born in Maringo, Wash., died Friday.

She lived in Spokane for 20 years before moving to Junction City, in 1986.

In 1994 she married Edwin Young in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Young frequently received first place at the Lane County Fair for her roses and won the King of the Rose award at the Rose Show at the Valley River Mall in Eugene, Ore.

Mrs. Young is survived by her husband.

Lois Hayden Spokane

No service will be held for Lois Ann Hayden, 65. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hayden, who was born in Colfax, Wash., died Thursday.

In 1948 she married Darrell Hayden in Lewiston, and she moved to Spokane 13 years ago.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband died in 1985.

Survivors include a son, Douglas Hayden of Spokane; three daughters, Barbara Heinen, Debra Hayden and Susan Webster, all of Spokane; two brothers, Larry and Jimmy; five sisters, Nora, Christine, Sandy, Nancy and Janice; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Robert Healy Spokane

Funeral Mass for Robert S. Healy, 94, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Healy, who was born in Anaconda, Mont., died Wednesday.

He had lived in Spokane since 1932.

Mr. Healy worked as a sign painter and artist.

He was a member of the Eagles and Moose lodges.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Sara; a son, John Healy of Spokane; and four grandchildren.
