Chamber Honors Two Local Students For Grades, Attitude

The Coeur d’Alene Chamber of Commerce recently selected two local students to be honored for their achievements.

Bailey Pellak, a sixth-grader at Lakes Middle School and daughter of Pam Proctor and Don Dotson, was selected as the January student of the month.

Pellak is an A-student and was cited for her encouragement and support of fellow students and for having a positive attitude.

Sean P.L. Haler, son of Nancy Haler and a Lake City High School/ North Idaho College dual enrollment student, was commended for maintaining a 4.0 grade-point average in a challenging curriculum.

Haler is taking advanced math courses at N.I.C. and is involved with DECA, Catholic Youth Community and is the leader of the First Priority Club, a Christian youth group.

He also participates in community service projects, Natural Helpers, writing and cross country.

Sarah Peterson, daughter of Perry and Linda Peterson of Post Falls, has been named to the Dean’s List at Concordia University in Oregon for the third consecutive semester.

Peterson, a 1996 Falls Christian Academy graduate who maintains a 4.0 grade-point average, is a member of the varsity soccer, basketball and softball teams and is majoring in health and fitness management.

The Kootenai County Juvenile Probation W.I.L.D. (Work in Lieu of Detention) Program will receive a 1998 Youth Garden Grant from the National Gardening Association.

The program will receive more than $750 worth of tools, seeds and useful gardening products and was chosen from 1,900 children’s gardening programs nationwide.

The community garden is a collaborative effort between the KCJP W.I.L.D. program and the county Cooperative Extension Office and promotes the development of life skills and responsibility in today’s youth by providing real life, hands-on experience in working and nurturing the soil.

Community businesses who have contributed to the project since its 1996 piloting include Duncan’s Garden Center, Extension Master Gardeners, CENEX and Plant Mill Nursery.
