Beau Beckley Earns Eagle Scout Award

Beau Beckley, of Boy Scout Troop 888, has earned his Eagle Scout award. For his service project Beau organized a work party and installed a chain link fence at the Little League field in Ritzville, Wash. Beckley is a student at Ritzville High School. His parents are Doug and Tammy Beckley of Ritville.

Several area students at Eastern Washington University received scholarships for the 1997-98 academic year. Those students are listed with their scholarship, hometown and parents:

Laura Phillips, Spokane, received a $500 Dean’s Continuing Excellence Scholarship. This scholarship is based on merit to returning students enrolled in Eastern’s College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences. Phillips is a 1990 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School and is currently majoring in literature. Her parents are Daniel and Bonnie Phillips of Spokane.

Tamra Bruner, Chattaroy, received a $500 Dean’s Continuing Excellence Scholarship. She is a 1982 graduate of Riverside High School and is currently majoring in education. She is the daughter of Ron and Sheila Mead of Chattaroy.

Kandis Carper, Spokane, received a $500 Dean’s Continuing Excellence Scholarship for Eastern Washington University. This scholarship is based on merit of returning students enrolled in Eastern’s College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences. Carper is a 1973 graduate of Marycliff High School and is currently majoring in liberal studies. Her parents are Patrick and Joann Kenney of Spokane.

Patrick McQuesten, Spokane, received a $500 Dean’s Continuing Excellence Scholarship for the 1997-98 academic year at Eastern Washington University. He is a 1992 graduate of Gonzaga Preparatory School, where he was named Percussionist of the Year for 1991-92. He is currently majoring in communication studies. His parents are Mike and Cheri McQuesten of Colbert.

Givette Blackhart, Spokane, received a $2,000 Dale Wilson Scholarship. The scholarship is to benefit students majoring in education, psychology, business and nursing. Blackhart is a 1995 graduate of Ferris High School and currently majoring in psychology. She is also an Eagle Ambassador and an Associated Students council clerk. Backhart is the daughter of Brad Blackhart and Elaine Syth, both of Spokane.

Christa Gray, Spokane Valley, also received a $2,000 Dale Wilson Scholarship. She is a 1996 graduate of Central Valley High School and was a member of the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Darrell and Carol Klein of the Spokane Valley.

Casey Perry took first place in the Washington Apple Education Foundation Year of the Apple art contest. He received a $1,000 savings bond and the design was featured on a poster calendar. The calendar was displayed at the Washington State Horticultural Association convention. Perry is a 1997 graduate of Shadle Park High School and is currently attending college in Montana.

Joe Sullivan, a Shadle Park freshman, also received two honorable mentions in Division III for his work. He received a $250 savings bond.

Megan Undeberg, Lind, Wash., was awarded a $500 Powell Pharmacy Scholarship for academic achievement and worthy character. She is a graduate student at Washington State University enrolled in the College of Pharmacy program. Underberg is also a member of Golden Key honor society, Kappa Psi pharmaceutical fraternity and the Academy of Student Pharmacists and is an alumna of Mortar Board national service honorary. She is the daughter of Oscar and Donna Undeberg of Lind and a 1992 Lind High School graduate.
