Dear Heloise: Here is a helpful hint I would like to share with you and your readers.

Recently a friend’s husband was going to the hospital (out of town), and she was staying near the hospital.

I gave her a prepaid phone card so she could call me anytime from any phone. She was grateful, and I was glad to be able to talk to her.

Dear Heloise: I am 87 with much arthritis, especially in my right hand. One day I picked up a rather small pair of pliers. What a blessing. I keep them handy at all times and use them to open medicine bottles and toothpaste tubes and to turn on electric lamps that have the turn switch.

Also with food, like the foil on a cottage-cheese tub, no way can I get hold of the little tab, so my helpful pliers are there to give me the extra strength. - Elsie Morrison, Fredericksburg, Va.
