Beulah Thomas Osburn, Idaho

Service for Beulah Thomas, 81, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the assembly of god church in Kellogg. A gathering for family and friends will follow at the Bedroom Gold Mine in Murray, Idaho. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thomas, who was born in Wallace, died Friday.

She grew up in Murray, where her parents operated a general store from 1916-46, and graduated from Lewiston State Normal School.

Mrs. Thomas taught school in Eagle, Idaho, near Murray for two years and received a teaching certificate from the University of Idaho in 1941. She also taught high school in Coeur d’Alene.

She was a flight instructor in Spokane, teaching Naval Air students, and also was a test pilot for B-17 and B-24 modifications in Utah.

Mrs. Thomas established a flying school and charter service in Kellogg after World War II.

She married Joe Thomas in 1955.

She lived in Osburn and owned coin-operated laundries in Kellogg, Wallace and Coeur d’Alene, later selling two and operating the Wallace laundry for more than 30 years.

Mrs. Thomas had served on the Osburn City Council and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and a women’s bowling league in Wallace.

Her husband died in 1970.

Survivors include a son, John Thomas of Osburn; a sister, Doris Mussil of Spokane; two grandchildren, Chalon Thomas of Osburn and Joshua Johnson of Boston; and one great-granddaughter.

Stanley Franck Sandpoint

Memorial Mass for Stanley Franck, 63, will be today at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sandpoint with inurnment to follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.

Mr. Franck, who was born in Sandpoint, died Monday.

Known by two nicknames, either Fred or Fritz, Mr. Franck lived in Spokane for 25 years and worked at Wendle Ford. He later returned to Sandpoint.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; two sons, Richard Franck of Spokane and Terry Franck of Sagle, Idaho; a daughter, Laura Daugherty of California; and six grandchildren, Alex, Alisa, Lloyd, Sean, JennaLeigh, and T.J.

Otto Tjostolvson Spokane

Visitation for Otto A. Tjostolvson, 76, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Graveside service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Tjostolvson, who was born in Havre, Mont., died Sunday.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps, U.S. Coast Guard and the National Guard.

Mr. Tjostolvson retired from working as an oiler at Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood in 1982.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, June; and a brother, Orvin Tjostolvson of Sandy, Ore.

John Saad Potlatch, Idaho

Memorial service for John M. Saad, 58, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Old Lions Club Park near Potlatch Elementary School. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Saad, who was born in Potlatch, died Monday.

He attended schools in Potlatch and during his senior year in high school enlisted in the Army. He served until 1963. During his military service he was stationed in Germany and Vietnam.

After his military discharge he worked for Keck Logging and Atkinson Logging in the Potlatch area for many years, including driving trucks and working as a cat operator.

He married Corie Benson in 1968. She died in 1992.

In 1989 he purchased Peck’s Service Station at the Potlatch Y and operated the business until 1993. He later worked for a construction company operating a rock crusher until his health forced him to retire.

Survivors include a son, Doug Saad of Potlatch; two daughters, Jonna Wallace of Potlatch and Linda Mello of Bend, Ore.; a brother, Jim Saad of Boise; two sisters, Janet Styer of Palouse and Penny Cooney of Hollister, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund or to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Bruce `Bill’ Bond Cusick, Wash.

Funeral for Bruce R. “Bill” Bond, 90, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash. Burial will be at the Calispel Cemetery west of Usk, Wash.

Mr. Bond, who was born in Newport, died Saturday.

In 1913 he moved to a farm west of Cusick, where he attended schools and worked in various logging camps.

In 1930 he graduated from the Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. In 1938 he married Helen Cusick.

Mr. Bond worked as a fireman in the boiler room at the Diamond Match Mill in Cusick for many years. He suffered a heart attack in 1959, forcing him to retire, but he continued to raise cattle on the family farm.

Mr. Bond was a 60-year member of the Calispel Grange, a member of the Pend Oreille County Historical Society and the Usk Community Club.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, William Bond of Bremerton, Randy Bond of Spokane and James Bond of Cusick; two daughters, Helen Bond of Aberdeen, Wash., and Judy Evans of Blanchard, Idaho; a brother, Locke Bond of Portland; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Pend Oreille Historical Society, Locke Church of Christ, Usk Community Club or Hospice of Spokane.

Willis Payton Sandpoint

Memorial service for Willis Dey Payton, 81, was held Tuesday at the Sandpoint First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Payton, who was born in Powell, Wyo., died Friday.

He graduated from high school in Arkansas City, Kan., and received a bachelor of science degree from Kansas State University in 1941.

Mr. Payton received a law degree from the University of Kansas City and worked for Phillips Petroleum in Oklahoma. He had worked in Texas, Oklahoma and Washington before retiring in 1979 and moving to Sandpoint.

Mr. Payton was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen. Survivors include three sons, John Payton of Chicago, and Marc and Steve Payton, both of Texas; a brother, Calvin Payton of Texas; and a sister, Mary Emery of Arizona.

Warren Rinehart Sandpoint

Private family service for Warren W. Rinehart, 76, will be held later. Inurnment will take place in Kent, Wash. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rinehart, who was born in Taylorville, Ill., died Monday.

He served with the Army during World War II, and married Kit Daugherty in 1948. Mr. Rinehart had lived in Arizona, Illinois and Texas before moving to Sandpoint in 1991.

He was a former member of the Sandpoint Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Kit; two children, Dan Rinehart and Murry Butler, both of Sandpoint; a brother, Robert Rinehart of Arizona; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Derella Tweedy Spokane

Graveside service for Derella Tweedy, a 34-year Spokane resident, will be at 1 p.m. today at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tweedy, who was born in Joplin, Mo., died Sunday. She was 89.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Fred, died in 1982.

Survivors include two daughters, Mildred Hutchinson and Sandra Willis, both of Spokane; a sister, Dessie Melcum of Clarkston, Wash.; nine grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital For Children.

Clyde Lindberg Moscow, Idaho

Viewing for Clyde R. Lindberg, 86, will be Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow. Service will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with burial to follow at Dry Creek Cemetery near Troy, Idaho.

Mr. Lindberg, who was born in Curlew, Wash., died Saturday from complications of emphysema.

He moved to Troy in 1919 and later lived in Harvard, Idaho. He worked on the railroad and was a farmer.

Mr. Lindberg served with the Army during World War II and in 1946 returned to Harvard and worked in various local sawmills and as a logger.

He married Lois Rustin in 1962. She died in 1973.

Mr. Lindberg moved to Princeton, Idaho, in the mid-1970s and then to the Dry Creek area in 1989.

Mr. Lindberg was a member of the Potlatch Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Survivors include a sister, Lucille Flodin of Troy; and two brothers, Calvin and Clarence Lindberg, both of Deary, Idaho.

Fred Swan Coeur d’Alene

Memorial service for Fred T. Swan will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Mr. Swan died Monday. He was 97.

Born in Clarissa, Minn., he grew up in the Coeur d’Alene area.

He worked at First Exchange National Bank and worked powerline construction in Alaska during World War II.

Mr. Swan also worked as an electrician at Farragut Naval Station and was later employed by Washington Water Power. He retired as office manager from Idaho Water Co. in Coeur d’Alene.

He was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Masonic Lodge Scottish Rite and the Coeur d’Alene Elks.

Survivors include a sister, Margaret Manley of Coeur d’Alene; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Norma Mace Spokane

Funeral for Norma E. Mace, 66, will be at 11 a.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Mace died Monday.

She attended North Central High School and was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Roger; a son, Kevin Mace of Spokane; two daughters, Karoylee McDonald of Newport, Wash., and Karen Colon of Spokane; a brother, Edward Hatcher, and a sister, Carole Schultz, both of Deer Park; two grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.
