Get That Turkey Thawed … Now

Add Spokesman-Review on Google

Haven’t started thawing that turkey yet?

Forget about sticking it in the refrigerator; that takes a full day for every 4 or 5 pounds. And don’t just set it out on the counter, unless you’d like dangerous bacteria as dinner guests.

Instead, place the bird breast-down in the sink or a big pot and cover it with cold water. Allow 30 minutes thawing time per pound, changing the water every 30 minutes to keep the turkey surface cold.

And you don’t need to wait until tomorrow. Once thawed, turkey will keep for up to four days in the refrigerator.
