Frances Standiford Spokane

Vigil service for Frances M. Standiford, 86, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mary Queen Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Trentwood.

Mrs. Standiford, who was born in Savoy, Mont., died Sunday.

She was a Spokane resident for more than 60 years.

Mrs. Standiford graduated from Holy Names College magna cum laude.

She worked as an elementary school librarian for the Central Valley School District. She retired in 1977.

Mrs. Standiford volunteered as the librarian for 20 years at St. Paschal’s Catholic School. She was a member of the Catholic Professional Business Women’s Association and the Washington State Librarians Association.

Her husband of 38 years, James, died in 1974.

Survivors include two sons, Richard and James Standiford, both of Spokane; two daughters, Rita Aldridge of Spokane and Pat Stumpf of Marietta, Ga.; a brother, Bernard Kenny of Missoula; three sisters, Margaret Hudgins of Missoula, Helen Simons of Phoenix and Joyce Kenny of San Diego; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Poor Clare Nuns or St. Paschal Catholic School Library.

Eugene Brewer Jr. Spokane

Visitation for Eugene A. Brewer Jr., 81, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at Audubon Park United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

A Spokane-area resident for 40 years, Mr. Brewer died Monday. He was born in Kansas City, Kan.

During World war II he served in the Army.

He worked for the National Bank of Congress, which later became Rainier Bank, for six years in Medical Lake. He then became the postmaster and retired in 1981.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty; a son, John Brewer of Vancouver, Wash.; two daughters, Teresa Madri and Patricia Johnson, both of Spokane; two sisters, Adele Allison of Roseburg, Ore., and Ruth Saulter of Beaverton, Ore.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Irene Rucker Davenport, Wash.

Memorial service for Irene Rucker, 69, was Monday at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial preceded the service at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane.

A 10-year Davenport resident, Mrs. Rucker died Friday. She was born in Oregon.

She worked as a cook at Rockwood for 15 years. She also had worked as the head housekeeper at Thunderbird Lodge.

Mrs. Rucker lived in Spokane for 30 years before moving to Davenport.

Her husband, Lee, died in 1966.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Wood of Spokane; two sons, Les Rucker of Reardan, Wash., and Richard Rucker of Davenport; three brothers, Vernon Adams of Wells, Nev., Ken Adams of Elko, Nev., and Clyde Adams of Bossier, La.; three sisters, Virginia Moffett of Newport, Ore., Beatrice Willimote of Red Mount, Calif., and Ina Schmidt of Dickinson, Texas; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Michael Murinko Spokane

Memorial Mass for Michael David Murinko, 34, will be at 5:30 p.m. today at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 27-year Spokane resident, Mr. Murinko died Friday. He was born in Butte, Mont.

He graduated from Wallace High School in 1984.

Mr. Murinko had worked as a chef at The Beryl SS for the past 10 years. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his girlfriend, Michele Michael; his mother and stepfather, Geri and Floyd Stearns of Spokane; his father and stepmother, Michael and Judy Murinko; and five sisters, Teri, Judy Lynn, Coleen, Amy and Rion Murinko, all of Spokane.

Ingrid Bowler-Carson Coeur d’Alene

Visitation for Ingrid P. BowlerCarson, 85, will be today from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Heritage Place retirement community in Coeur d’Alene.

Mrs. Bowler-Carson, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Sunday.

She lived in Minnesota until moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1923. She married Cleon Bowler in 1947. He died in 1971.

She married Jack Carson in 1972. He died in 1978.

Mrs. Bowler-Carson was a homemaker and volunteered as a home-health caregiver.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene and was a short-story author.

Survivors include a sister, Berget Walden of Spokane; a daughter in-law, Gladyce Bowler of Hayden, Idaho; two sister in-laws, Jean Nistad of Seattle and Lilly Nistad of Portland; eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Christian Kuehn Jr. Burnet, Texas

No service will be held for Christian G. Kuehn Jr., 83, at his request. Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kuehn, who was born in Scotch Plains, N.J., died Friday.

He graduated as a mining engineer from the Colorado School of Mines in 1941 and married Alice Shepherd in 1942.

Mr. Kuehn worked in mining operations in Nevada, Colorado, Wyoming and Bolivia for 10 years.

He and his wife moved in 1952 to Boise, where he worked for a mining and construction company until 1969.

They moved to Eugene, Ore., in 1970 and then to Hope, Idaho, in 1982. He moved to Burnet in 1996.

His wife died in 1996.

Survivors include a daughter, Mariah Wentworth of Burnet; two sisters, Isabella Gordon of Wisconsin and Joyce Martin of New Jersey; and a granddaughter.

Patricia Flom Spokane

No service will be held for Patricia Flom, 65, at her request. Spokane Cremation and Burial Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Flom, who was born in Montana, died last Wednesday from lung disease.

She was a 15-year Spokane resident and a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Flom of Spokane and Jeff Flom of Graham, Wash.; three daughters, Stephanie Harkins and Leslie Gandini, both of Spokane, and Paulette Flom of Spirit Lake, Idaho; two brothers, two sisters and numerous grandchildren.

Ruth (Earle) Hoffard Colville, Wash.

No service will be held for Ruth Ann (Earle) Hoffard, 93, at her request. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hoffard, who was born in Colville, died Sunday.

She grew up in Laurier, Wash.

She married Leslie Hoffard in 1926, and they lived in Burke, Idaho, and later moved back to the family homestead in Laurier. They then moved to Spokane in 1945 and back to Colville in 1972.

Mrs. Hoffard was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Nazarene and Church of God, both in Colville. She also was a member of the Homemakers Club.

Her husband died in 1989.

Survivors include two daughters, Bettina Tuck of Colville and Adey Altmeyer of Post Falls; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.

Hester Kelley Newport, Wash.

Private service will be held for Hester Kelley, 92, at a later date. ShermanKnapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Miss Kelley, who was born in Winthrop, Mass., died Friday.

She worked as a photographer in Boston before moving to California in 1950.

Miss Kelley worked as librarian for the Stanislaus County Library in Salida, Calif.

She moved to Newport in 1977.

Miss Kelley was active on the library board in Newport and the Senior Citizen Group. She was a member of the Zillah Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include a brother, Jason Kelly of Saxonville, Mass.; and a sister, Sara Johnson of Essex, Mass.

Virginia Lowry Priest River, Idaho

No service will be held for Virginia Lowry, 80, at her request. Inurnment will be held at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

A 17-year Priest River resident, Mrs. Lowry died Friday. She was born in Seattle.

She married Thomas Lowry in 1963.

Mrs. Lowry worked as a waitress in the hospitality industry.

Her husband died in 1993.

Survivors include two daughters, Rowena Hilderbrand of Spokane and Donna Savage of Priest River; two granddaughters and one great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Paul Anderson Spokane

Memorial service for Paul “Andy” Anderson, 81, was Monday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Anderson died Dec. 4.

He served in the Army during World War II in the 161st Infantry.

Mr. Anderson worked as a warehouseman for Grinnell Plumbing. He also worked for Playfair Race Course.

He was a member of the Teamsters Union and served as president for Local Union 582.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Betty; a son, Danny Anderson of Spokane; a daughter, Kristine Tew of Deer Park; and three grandchildren.

Ethel Addington Spokane

Memorial service for Ethel A. Addington, a longtime Spokane resident, will be at 2 p.m. today at Plymouth Congregational Church. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Addington, 93, died Friday.

She was born in Edwall, Wash., and graduated from Edwall High School.

Mrs. Addington had worked as a bookkeeper, office manager and a doctor’s assistant. During the 1930s she worked for a hardware store.

She was a member and past queen of the El Katif Temple, Daughters of the Nile. She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Adelphi Chapter; and Plymouth Congregational Church.

Her husband, A. Jay, died in 1985.

Mrs. Addington is survived by a sister, Elma Schalock of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to Plymouth Congregational Church.

Ross Howell Pullman

Service for Ross Howell, 91, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Pullman Emmanuel Baptist Church. Private graveside service will be Friday at Moscow (Idaho) City Cemetery. Evans Funeral Chapel in Anacortes, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Howell, who was born in Butte, Mont., died Sunday.

He came to Pullman by train from Spokane at the age of 5. He was raised by foster parents John and Emma Olson on the family farm.

He married Lillie Petersen in 1937, and they lived on and worked the farm.

Mr. Howell was a 50-year member of Whelan Grange.

His wife died in 1994.

Survivors include a daughter, Goldenia Banks, and a son, John Howell, both of Pullman; four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Marjorie Sherman Spokane

No service will be held for Marjorie E. Sherman, 85, at her request. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 60-year Spokane resident and a homemaker, Mrs. Sherman died Sunday.

She was born in Wibaux, Mont., and graduated from Wibaux High School. In 1946 she married Vincent Sherman. He died in 1987.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Summers of Spokane and Claudia Carlson of Eugene, Ore.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

George Colborn Jr. Spokane

Memorial service for George M. Colborn Jr., 86, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Colborn died Saturday.

He worked as a private contractor in the construction industry.

His wife, Fern, died in 1987.

Survivors include two daughters, Julie Prufer of Deer Park and Georgia Harrington of Santa Clarita, Calif.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Stella Rowley Colbert

Service for Stella I. Rowley will be at 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will be held at Peone Prairie Cemetery in Mead.

Mrs. Rowley, 86, died Friday.

She was a lifetime Colbert resident and a homemaker.

Her husband, Willard, died in 1999.

Mrs. Rowley is survived by four grandchildren.
