Cooking Contests Winners Named
The Spokane Interstate Fair is over, but for a few area cooks, the competition is just getting started.
The winning recipes of three of four food company-sponsored contests will advance to national competitions. They are:
Amie Jo Sawchuk of Spokane, who won the Hormel’s Spam Competition with Tasty Tortillas Spam Roll-ups. Sawchuk won $150; grand prize in the national contest in January is $2,500 and a trip for two to the Mall of America in Minneapolis.
Laurie Palmquist of Spokane who won the Fleishmann’s Yeast Bread Competition with Braided Bread. Palmquist won $150. There’s no national competition in this category.
Katherine Gagner of Nine Mile Falls who won the Softasilk Championship Cake Award for her Moca Cake. Gagner won $100 and her recipe will compete in a national competition in January, with a top prize of $1,000.
Kathy White of Spokane who won the Land O Lakes Best Cookie Contest with her Walnut Truffle Cookies. White’s recipe advances to a November competition with a grand prize of $500 and a year’s supply of Land O Lakes products.
