Dean Gillund, M.D. Spokane
Service for Dr. T. Dean Gillund, 60, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.
A 21-year Spokane resident, Dr. Gillund died Saturday from injuries suffered when his car careened off an embankment on Idaho State Highway 57 south of Priest Lake.
He was born in Canton, Minn.
In 1958 he graduated from Preston (Minn.) High School and received a bachelor’s degree from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., in 1962. He received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis.
Dr. Gillund served in the Navy for two years at the Naval Hospital in Boston.
He completed a one-year medical internship in Birmingham, England, and a two-year pathology residencey at the University of Vermont in Burlington.
From 1971 to 1979 he served as a pathologist at Northwest Hospital in Minneapolis.
Dr. Gillund moved to Spokane in 1979.
He was a founding partner for Pathology Services and had been working as the laboratory director of pathology for Deaconess Medical Center.
Dr. Gillund was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and the Spokane County Medical Society.
His wife of 35 years, Andrea, died in 1997.
Survivors include two daughters, Solveig Gillund of Seattle and Kirsten Duprey of Broomfield, Colo.; his mother, Signe Gillund of Preston, Minn.; two brothers, Arden Gillund of Kokomo, Ind., and Dan Gillund of Newark, Del.; three sisters, Shirley Kroona of St. Paul, Minn., Cleo Mayfield of Columbia, Tenn., and Arla Sullivan of Casper, Wyo.; and a granddaughter.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Clinic at St. Luke Lutheran Church or to St. Olaf College, Gillund Scholarship Fund, 1520 St. Olaf Ave., Northfield, MN 55057.
Joseph Drobny Bellevue, Wash.
Memorial service for Joseph E. Drobny, 85, will be held at a later date. Green’s Bellevue Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Drobny, who was born in Cadillac, Mich., died Thursday.
After graduating from high school Mr. Drobny served in the Navy for six years and then in the Air Force for almost 16 years.
He lived in Spokane for 40 years and worked as a realtor for Carter Lewis Real Estate.
Mr. Drobny recently moved to Bellevue.
He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and the Elks Lodge.
His wife of 54 years, A. Ruth, died in 1996.
Survivors include two sons, Randolph Drobny of Bellevue and Richard Drobny of Seattle; a brother, Howard Drobny of Sequin, Texas; two sisters, Anna Marvin and Mitzi Richter, both of Michigan; and two grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Elizabeth Mahon Spokane
Service for Elizabeth E. Mahon, 75, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
A 41-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Mahon died Saturday. She was born in Almira, Wash.
She worked for Old National Bank for 24 years.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Ed; two sons, Jerry Mahon of Spokane and Robert Mahon of Dallas; a daughter, Karen Goben of Spokane; a brother, John Kirkland of Spokane; and a great-granddaughter.

Doris (Skipworth) Rowland Spokane
Memorial service for Doris E. (Skipworth) Rowland, 88, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.
Born in Iowa, Mrs. Rowland died Sunday.
She married Frank Rowland in 1931.
Mrs. Rowland and her family moved to Spokane in 1965.
She was a homemaker, and a member of the Rebekah Lodge and a charter member of the Opportunity Grange.
Her husband died in 1975.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Skeie and Sally Carr; two sisters, Mildred Wood and Jenny Fallquist; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Alice (Pruett) Bell Wilbur, Wash.
Funeral Mass for Alice L. (Pruett) Bell, 85, will be at 11 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Wilbur. Burial will follow at the Wilbur Cemetery. Strate Funeral Home in Wilbur is in charge of arrangements.
A 60-year Wilbur resident, Mrs. Bell died Sunday.
She was born in Connell, Wash., where she graduated from high school in 1933. She married William Bell that same year.
Mrs. Bell and her husband had owned and operated Bell R.V. Park in Wilbur since 1940.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Wilbur Chamber of Commerce and the Wilbur Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Her husband died in 1979.
Survivors include a son, Bill Bell of Lamont, Wash.; five daughters, Judy Henke of Spokane, Barbara Walter of Odessa, Wash., Bev Wagner and Bonnie Jensen, both of Wilbur, and Beryl Pielli of Sacheen Lake, Wash.; 23 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Marion Mally Spokane

A 70-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Mally died Wednesday. She was born in Anaconda, Mont.
In 1956 she married A.J. “Pat” Mally.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.
Her husband died in 1998.
Mrs. Mally is survived by a sister, June Toschi of Millbrae, Calif.

Linda Dietzel Spokane

A 40-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Dietzel died Friday. She was born in Ames, Iowa.
She graduated from West Valley High School in 1963.
Mrs. Dietzel worked as a secretary for Eagle Supply.
Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Marvin; two stepsons, Jerry Dietzel of Spokane and Jeff Dietzel of Valrico, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Kim Johnson of Spokane; her father, Matt Roberts of Chewelah, Wash.; and a sister, Janet Berges of Macungie, Pa.
Katherine Evans Spokane
Private service for Katherine E. Evans, 83, will be at the Evergreen-Washelli Cemetery in Seattle. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 22-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Evans died Sept. 13. She was born in Centralia, Wash.
She worked as a merchandiser for The Bon Marche in Seattle for more than 20 years.
Her husband, Harry, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharyl Austin; and two grandchildren.
Elizabeth Myers Spokane
Service for E. Elizabeth “Betty” Myers, 86, will be at 11 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Myers died Sunday.
She married Wayne Myers in 1933, and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.
Her husband died in 1996.
Survivors include two sons, Norman Myers of Spirit Lake, Idaho, and Daniel Myers of Toronto, Ontario; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Donald Bankowski Spokane
No service will be held for Donald Bankowski, 66, at his request. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 15-year Spokane resident, Mr. Bankowski died Sept. 13. He was born in Kenosha, Wis.
He worked as a car salesman for Ford and Chevrolet.
Survivors include three sons, Donald and Steven Bankowski, both of Phoenix, and Robert Bankowski of Bakersfield, Calif.; three brothers, Lou Bankowski of Coeur d’Alene, Leroy Bankowski of California and Richard Bankowski of Prescott, Ariz.; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Shirley (Russell) Scharffer St. John, Wash.
Memorial service for Shirley L. (Russell) Scharffer, 65, will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John Methodist Church. Private burial will precede the service at the St. John Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Scharffer, who was born in Colfax, died Sunday.
She graduated from Colfax High School, and in 1953 married William Scharffer. They lived in St. John.
Mrs. Scharffer worked as a secretary for Comeco in Steptoe, Wash., for 17 years.
She was a member of St. John Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Bob Scharffer of St. John; two daughters, Georgia Hennigar and Sherry Mors, both of St. John; two brothers, George Russell Jr. of Colfax and Stanley Russell of Walla Walla; a sister, Sandra Jackson of Steptoe; and seven grandchildren.

Henry Klum Spokane
Service for Henry Dennis Klum, 99, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.
Born in Howard, Ore., Mr. Klum died Saturday.
He married Frances Pendleton; she died in 1938.
Mr. Klum moved to Spokane in 1940, and worked as a telegraph operator. He retired in 1965 from Northern Pacific Railroad, where he was the assistant superintendent of the Idaho division.
Mr. Klum later married Isa Estes; she died in 1989.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners.
Survivors include a son, Roger Estes of Spokane; two daughters, Norma Hunt of Rancho Mirata, Calif., and Jean Brandel of Sacramento, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Helen Peterson Spokane

Mrs. Peterson, 89, died Saturday.
She was a lifetime Spokane resident and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, William; a son, Gary Peterson of Palm Springs, Calif.; a grandson and two great-grandchildren.
Shirley Ham Spokane

Mrs. Ham, who was born in Barry County, Mo., died Friday in Twin Falls, Idaho, while attending her high school reunion.
She married Wilbur Ham in 1946.
Mrs. Ham and her family moved to Spokane in 1961.
She worked as a teacher of English as a second language at the Barton School and as an instructor for senior driver’s safety. She also worked as a real estate agent for Century 21 for 10 years.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Kay Bishop of Everett; two sons, Donald Ham of Fort Lewis, Wash., and William Ham of Bend, Ore.; seven grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

Marie Seehorn-Burton Spokane
Service for Marie Seehorn-Burton, 85, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Seehorn-Burton, who was born in Glengarry, Mont., died Friday.
She was a 76-year Spokane resident.
Mrs. Seehorn-Burton worked as a teller at Lincoln Mutual Savings.
She was a member of the Corbin Park Senior Citizen’s Group and the Senior Singles Club from the Old European Restaurant.
Her husbands, Wayne Seehorn of 50 years and Rux Burton of 11 years, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Judy Burton of Spokane; two stepgranddaughters and two stepgreat-grandsons.

Neva Scruggs Spokane

Born in Dierks, Ark., Mrs. Scruggs died Saturday.
She was a 26-year Spokane resident and worked in retail sales at Montgomery Wards and J.C. Penney Co.
Survivors include her husband of 25 years, Bert; two sons, Doug Hall of Spokane and Larry Scruggs of Washington; two daughters, Dena Fought of Othello, Wash., and Alice of Tacoma; a brother, John Killian of Bellingham; a sister, Sue Killian of Wenatchee; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
