‘Joan,’ ‘Raymond’ win family TV awards

From wire reports

CBS’ “Joan of Arcadia” and “Everybody Loves Raymond” took top honors at the sixth annual Family Television Awards.

“Joan” won as best drama and star Amber Tamblyn shared the top actress award with “Raymond’s” Doris Roberts. “Raymond” was named best comedy show.

NBC’s coverage of the Olympic Games won for best TV special, ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” took top reality show, ABC’s “Lost” was voted best new series and Bernie Mac of Fox’s “The Bernie Mac Show” was named best actor.

Winners were picked by members of the Association of National Advertisers to honor outstanding programming for family viewing.

The awards ceremony, hosted by “Summerland” star, producer and co-creator Lori Loughlin, was videotaped for broadcast next Thursday by the WB Network.

‘Soprano’ changes tune

A mobster will be taking over for a cop on “Law & Order.”

Michael Imperioli of “The Sopranos” will appear in the NBC drama while series star Jesse L. Martin films the musical “Rent.”

Imperioli will play a police detective who teams up with his uncle, Detective Joe Fontana (Dennis Farina), in the final episodes of this season. Martin will return next season.

“I’m glad to be on the right side of the law,” said Imperioli, who won an Emmy this year for his portrayal of mob boss Tony Soprano’s hard-luck nephew, Christopher Moltisanti.

Brits bash ‘Baywatch’

“Baywatch” is the worst American show ever to hit British screens, according to a survey by the British TV industry magazine Broadcast.

It was followed by “The Anna Nicole Show,” “The Dukes of Hazzard,” “The Jerry Springer Show” and “Manimal.”

The best: “The Simpsons,” “Dallas,” “24,” “M*A*S*H” and “The Larry Sanders Show.”
