See edits of ‘MTV Movie Awards’

Joel Brown New York Times Syndicate

Ya gotta love those MTV awards shows. They replace the dull, mainstream celebrity drivel of your usual awards show with some hip, young phony celebrity drivel.

The “MTV Movie Awards,” tonight at 9 on the cable channel, were taped Saturday night in Los Angeles. The show features Eminem performing with D12 and mooning the audience.

When Carmen Electra stops by to pick up her award for best kiss — a three-way in “Starsky and Hutch” — she ends up re-creating the winning moment with Snoop Dogg and Paris Hilton. (Use the industrial strength Listerine after that one, Carmen, honey.)

It’s all very young and hip and FCC-unfriendly. It will be interesting to see how MTV’s editors deal with it.

But none of it’s truly surprising or shocking anymore. Its best selling point is the lack of anything else to watch tonight.

Lindsay Lohan hosts, and “The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King” wins best movie. (A pre-show airs at 8:30.)
