UW places second at Preview; WSU’s Kostina ties for eighth

The University of Washington’s women’s golf team placed second, six shots behind champion Duke, during the 21-team NCAA Fall Preview at The Meadows Golf Course in Sunriver, Ore., on Wednesday.

Washington’s Kim Shin and Washington State’s Ana Kostina tied for eighth place by carding 2-over-par 215s for three rounds. WSU finished one shot out of last place.

•Marcy Holt of Spokane and Penny Jacks of Lewiston lost on the first playoff hole at the Pacific Northwest Women’s Senior team championship at Bremerton, Wash.

Three teams finished tied for first at 215. Holt/Jacks bogeyed the first playoff hole. Susan McCoy and Linda Fuller of Mercer Island, Wash., won when McCoy sank a 4-foot birdie putt on the third hole.

Women’s soccer

Eastern Washington University’s freshman forward Cyeeta Mott was named Big Sky Conference offensive player of the week.

She scored Eastern’s goals in a 1-0 win over Idaho and during a 1-all tie against Colorado College. She leads EWU with three goals and one assist.

Cross country

Jan Eitel and Bevin Kennelly of the University of Idaho were both named Big West Conference athletes of the week for their performances in last Saturday’s Sundodger Invitational in Seattle.

Eitel ran the 8,000-meter race in 24 minutes, 46.24 seconds to finish 13th among men’s collegiate runners. Kennelly ran the women’s 6,000 in 21:28.74 to place seventh overall and lead the Vandals to first place.
