Liberty survives in Bi-County tournament

Liberty pulled away from Wilbur-Creston, 60-50, in a Bi-County League boys basketball tournament loser-out game at Reardan Thursday.

Andy Hodgson scored 16 of his 21 points in the first half, staking the Lancers to a 29-26 halftime lead. Andrew Canning took over in the second half when he scored 19 of his 21 points.

Liberty plays Valley Christian at 7:30 tonight at Reardan for the third and fourth seeds to the District 7 B Tournament.

Valley Christian 70, Reardan 62: Nick Crooks stepped up with 20 points to lead the Panthers past the Indians in the loser-out game.

Panorama League

Wellpinit earns No. 3 seed

Wellpinit used a 30-point second quarter to get past St. George’s 80-63 at Colville, to earn the Panorama No. 3 seed to the District 7 B tournament. The Redskins had four players reach double figures, led by Sage Sonneck and Preston Wynne, who both scored 19 points.

Chewelah holds on

Chewelah built a 16-point lead at intermission, and held off a second-half storm from the host Stags (8-12, 3-9) to win 64-60 at Deer Park. Eric Aquino had seven second-half steals to fuel the Stags’ comeback, which cut the Cougars’ led to a single point before Brent Mulligan made a pair of free throws to boost the lead. Chewelah (12-8, 7-5) completed its regular season. The Cougars’ seven league wins tie them with Medical Lake and Riverside for second place.

Broncos win defensive test

The Lind-Ritzville Broncos won a defensive battle with the Wilbur-Creston Wildcats, 28-18, in a loser-out, Bi-County League Tournament game at Reardan. Jenna Kragt scored six of her nine points in the fourth quarter to lead the Broncos. Zenda Reidt scored 16 of the Wildcats’ 18 points. Lind-Ritzville advances to play Liberty for third place tonight at 6. … Liberty 61, Davenport 57: Shawn Hennessey scored 25 points, hitting 10 of 12 shots from the field and 3 for 3 from 3-point range in the process, to lift the Lancers into tonight’s third-place game against Lind-Ritzville. Liberty thwarted Davenport’s full-court press in the second half to maintain its lead.

Panorama League

Republic gets past Inchelium

Republic used a strong fourth quarter to get past Inchelium 53-47 to capture the third-place trophy in the Panorama League Tournament at Colville. Sarah Knapton scored 12 points and Randi Koontz scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Tigers, who will open the District 7 B Tournament against the Bi-County League runner-up. Inchelium, the No. 4 seed, opens with the Bi-County champion.

Great Northern League

Deer Park upsets Chewelah

Deer Park staked a claim on third place in the league race with one game left and denied Chewelah a chance to claim the undisputed championship by winning 51-49 at DP. The Stags (15-5, 8-4) held a seven-point lead midway through the fourth quarter, but Chewelah rallied to tie the game with a minute to go. Deer Park ran the clock down and Rachel McNeil buried a 10-foot jumper with 5 seconds left to win the game. Riverside can share the league title with Chewelah (16-4, 9-3) with a win over Medical Lake tonight. Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls can tie DP with a win over Colville.
