NC falls one win short of state

West Valley (Yakima) swept North Central Saturday to earn a berth in next week’s State 3A tournament, beating the Indians 25-18, 25-20, 25-21 in a 3A regional loser-out matchup in Selah.

NC’s Indians had earlier lost to Ellensburg 21-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-20.

West Valley, which beat East Valley (Spokane) 25-22, 21-25, 25-10, 25-18 in a loser-out match earlier, earned the region’s No. 3 seed to the state tournament.

Miranda Weitz finished with 19 kills and five blocks as Pullman earned a No. 1 seed to the State 2A tournament by beating Lakeside (Nine Mile) 25-20, 25-27, 25-23, 25-14 in the District 7 2A championship match at Pullman. Katie Henrichs added 37 kills for the Greyhounds, who also earned the district title with the win. … Lakeside rode the 12 kills of Kelli Tikker, giving her 30 on the day, to a 25-21, 25-20, 25-17 sweep of Riverside in a loser-out match. With the win, the Eagles earned the district’s No. 2 seed to state. Riverside had beaten Colville earlier in a loser-out match. State play begins Friday in Yakima.

Sadie Lazzarini and Lauren Mellor each had 11 kills as Colfax knocked off Freeman 25-16, 26-24, 23-25, 30-28 in the final of the District 6/7 1A tournament in Oroville. Mellor also added 13 blocks as the Bulldogs, who swept Brewster 25-7, 25-14, 25-19 in a loser-out match earlier in the day, earned the District 7 No. 1 seed to the State 1A tournament. Freeman, which beat Okanogan 25-18, 25-13, 15-25, 25-22 in a loser-out match earlier in the day, earned the District 6 No. 2 seed. … Liberty Bell earned the District 6 No. 1 seed by beating Okanogan 25-11, 25-15, 25-14.

Kathrin Fleige had 12 kills, four aces and three blocks as Davenport claimed the District 7 B title with a 25-18, 25-13, 25-17 win over Curlew at St. George’s. The Gorillas (22-4), who beat Wilbur-Creston 25-12, 25-11, 25-19 earlier in the day, earned the district’s top seed to the State B tournament. Curlew (17-2), which beat Sprague-Harrington 25-10, 19-25, 21-25, 25-17, 15-13 earlier in the day, is the second seed. … Stacie Shields had 25 kills, giving her a total of 63 on the day, and eight blocks, giving her 22 on the day, as Sprague-Harrington (22-4) beat Reardan (17-8) in a loser-out match to earn the No. 3 seed to state. Reardan had beaten Wilbur-Creston (14-12) 25-17, 20-25, 25-21, 25-19 in a loser-out match earlier in the day. S-H, after losing to Curlew, beat Inchelium (14-6) 22-25, 25-14 25-17, 25-18 to set up the matchup with Reardan.

•Pomeroy held off Dayton 25-14, 25-27, 25-19, 25-14 to win the District 9 B title at Colfax High School and earn the top seed to the State B tournament. … Dayton, after losing to Pomeroy, beat LaCrosse-Washtucna 25-19, 25-22, 23-25, 25-12 in a loser-out match to earn the district’s second seed to state. L-W had won two five-game, loser-out matches (over Tekoa-Oakesdale 25-19, 20-25, 25-16, 22-25, 15-7 and Garfield-Palouse 25-27, 17-25 25-17, 25-17, 15-6) to set up the winner-to-state matchup with Dayton. … Gar-Pal held off Rosalia 21-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-20 to set up the matchup with L-W.
