Keep handing out those healthy snacks

The Spokesman-Review

As the summer wears on, are you running out of ideas for healthy snacks?

Health expert Merilee Kern, author of “It’s Not Your Fault That You’re Overweight,” makes these suggestions for snacks to keep your children charmed:

“Any type of pre-washed fruit – nectarines, watermelon, cantaloupe, bananas or frozen grapes.

“Air-popped popcorn.

“Pretzel sticks, baked chips or homemade pita chips.

“Raw or roasted nuts, such as almonds or peanuts.

“Low-fat string cheese or chunked low-fat cheese.

“Cereal bars. Look for less than 10 grams of sugar per bar.

“Dried or rehydrated fruit, such as raisins, pears, apples, apricots.

“Water – lots of water.
