Idaho’s Winger reaches PR at McDonald’s Invite

Idaho’s Russ Winger set a personal best during a shot put victory at the McDonald’s Collegiate Indoor Meet Saturday at the Kibbie Dome in Moscow.

Winger won the shot put with a throw of 61 feet, 03/4 inches, setting a personal best and reaching an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Freshman Kevin Pabst took second in the long jump with a personal best of 23-2.

Former Vandal and current assistant coach Angela Whyte won the 60 meters and the 200- and 60-meter hurdles running unattached. Washington State’s La Shawnda Porter ran a personal best 24.84 to take second in the 200m behind Whyte.

Washington State sprinter James McSwain won the 60- and 200-meter runs. McSwain finished in a time of 6.75 seconds, edging teammate Jaycee Robertson (6.85).

McSwain also took the 200m in 21.48 seconds, with WSU’s Justin Woods third (21.91) behind the unattached James Sherwin (21.51).

McSwain also ran the second leg of Washington State’s winning 4x400 relay.

WSU freshman Robert Williams won the 60-meter hurdles for the third time in as many weeks, finishing in a time of 8.34 seconds.

Baseball

Gonzaga earned its second win in as many days, scoring five times in the middle innings to knock off Texas State 8-4 at the Texas Pan American Tournament in Edinburg, Texas.

Zach Woodward had a pair of RBI triples, the first of which scored Shawn Wayt in the fourth, for the Bulldogs (2-1). Woodward finished the day 3 for 5 with two RBIs.

GU’s Jackson Brennan went 2 for 3, with a lead-off home run in the first.

Heath Keel led the Bobcats (0-2), going 3 for 5 with an RBI.
