The Spokesman-Review

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man over the weekend who allegedly had 6.4 pounds of marijuana in his car.

Joshua Hoffman, 29, of Whitefish, Mont., was stopped driving 66 mph in a 55 mph zone on Highway 395 on Friday, deputies said.

When a deputy smelled marijuana, he questioned the driver, and was told to look under the seat. A small bag was found there, deputies said.

After the deputy requested the Washington State Patrol bring a canine unit, another small bag was found. Then the driver told the deputy about more pot in the trunk, deputies said.

Man pointing drill killed by police

A man shot and killed inside a home by a Tacoma police officer had pointed a solid black cordless drill at officers, a police spokesman said Tuesday.

The small drill held a tubular-shaped bit resembling a gun barrel, said spokesman Mark Fulghum. Investigators said the man pointed the drill at two officers before one shot and killed him.

The dead man was identified Tuesday by the Pierce County medical examiner’s office as 38-year-old Berry Millsap.

Police were called to the house Monday by Millsap’s wife, who reported she’d been attacked.

Millsap reportedly threatened to shoot if they went inside. After the two officers went into the home, Millsap pointed the drill at them and Officer Kevin Lorberau shot him, Fulghum said.
