Visual Arts: Summer serves up a variety of art across North Idaho

It is definitely summertime in North Idaho when both Moscow and Sandpoint convert downtown shops and eateries into wall-to-wall art venues.

This is the 21st summer Sandpoint’s art galleries and businesses have teamed up with regional artists for two six-week artwalks.

Coordinated by the Pend Oreille Arts Council, Artwalk I includes 24 venues and runs Friday through July 23. All opening receptions on Friday are from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The second cross-town artwalk, with a new mix of artists, starts Aug. 3 and will go through Sept. 10.

One event not to miss is the second annual “Plein Air Paint Out” sponsored by the Timber Stand Gallery, Panhandle State Bank, Taylor Parker Motors and the Seasons at Sandpoint.

“A dozen top-notch plein air (outdoor) artists are painting at various locations across downtown Sandpoint,” says Jim Quinn, owner of Timber Stand Gallery.

They will be painting on the beach at Seasons at Sandpoint, 313 S. Second Ave., between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. today, and on Friday at the Town Square, Main Street and Third Avenue, between 1 and 3 p.m.

All of the work will be on display and for sale Friday between 5 and 7 p.m. at the Timber Stand Gallery, 225 Cedar St.

Artwalk brochures are available at participating locations, Sandpoint City Hall, Chamber of Commerce, in the POAC Office at the Old Power House building, 120 Lake St., and online at www.artinsandpoint.org.
