Fresh Sheet: Pamper pets with new cookbook

Support your furry friends by picking up this new collection of recipes from Partners for Pets.

“Food Fur Thought” is a little cookbook filled with recipes for families, including those of the four-footed persuasion. Kitties might like the Fishy Scramble or Savory Cheese Treats, while family dogs could dine on Garlic Cheese Dog Biscuits or Doggie Doughnuts.

Partners for Pets’ goal is to eliminate euthanasia of healthy, adoptable pets, teach people about the problem of overpopulation and help families select pets. The nonprofit, volunteer organization was started in 1996.

Copies of the 60-page, soft-cover cookbook can be found at Partners for Pets, 8901 E. Trent Ave., next to Albertsons at Trent and Argonne. The books are $10 and all proceeds will go into a building fund.

For more information, contact Partners for Pets at (509) 893-9829.

Cooking classes blooming

Spokane transplant Paula Mannino will begin teaching Italian cooking classes next month.

Mannino says her mother’s family hails from the Italian province of Abruzzo and her father’s ancestors are from Messina, and she learned the best culinary traditions of both regions.

She has also studied regional cooking from other areas of Italy and has cooked for her family in the small village of Carini.

One-night classes are May, 6, 13 and 20. Mannino also will teach a series of four classes in June called Italian Cooking I. Each class is $45 and students help prepare a five-course dinner, including dessert. Afterward, they sit down to eat the meal.

For more information or to register call Mannino at (509) 893-8969.
