St. George’s replaces stolen bell

Lisa Leinberger The Spokesman-Review

St. George’s School has dedicated a new school bell that replaces a bell stolen in 2005.

The original bell was given to the school by Louis M. Davenport, who owned a summer vacation home, “Flowerfield,” on the Little Spokane River that now serves as the school campus.

The school held an auction on April 12 and raised enough funds to purchase a similar bell from an antiques dealer in Lewiston.

The bell was unveiled at a May 23 ceremony by fifth-grader Frankie Magnuson, who rang the bell for the first time. The school valedictorian, Emma Perkins, also spoke at the dedication.

Student advisers chosen

The board of directors of Spokane Public Schools has chosen Kayla Fencl of Rogers High School and Zack Zappone of North Central High School to serve as student advisers on the board.

The two will serve as non-voting members and will begin their term in August.
