Late score gives Clarkston win over Pullman

Brady Arnone’s late 15-yard touchdown pass to Taylor Marshall Friday vaulted Clarkston (4-3, 3-1) over Pullman (2-5, 2-2) for a 28-21 Great Northern League win in Pullman.

Cody Peterson rushed for 102 yards for the Greyhounds and scored with 5 minutes left to tie it at 21-21, but Arnone’s second touchdown pass two minutes later gave the Bantams the final edge. Arnone threw for 244 yards on 16-of-26 passing.

Deer Park 19, Cheney 10: The Stags (5-2, 2-2) held the Blackhawks (4-3, 2-1) to 170 yards of total offense while churning out 300 to hand the host Blackhawks their first league loss of the season.

West Valley 38, Colville 22: The Eagles (7-0, 4-0) scored 31 consecutive points to build a lead against the home Indians (3-4, 1-3) to remain undefeated and atop the GNL standings. Dylan Ellsworth rushed for 163 yards and scored twice during that stretch to bolster the Eagles’ offense, while Drew Clausen threw for 241 yards and two touchdowns and also recorded a safety.

Riverside 26, Medical Lake 23: The Cardinals (2-5, 0-4) hoped a quick start would lead to their first league win, but 26 unanswered points by the Rams (4-3, 1-3) proved to be too much of a deficit, giving the Rams their first GNL win.

Northeast A

Chewelah 42, Lakeside 7: Calvin Fisk threw for 242 yards, Calvin Connall ran for 117 and the Cougars (3-4, 2-0) recorded three interceptions in a decisive victory over the Eagles (2-5, 1-1) in Chewelah.

Kettle Falls 35, Newport 12: The Bulldogs (3-4, 3-1) tallied 400 yards of offense against the visiting Grizzlies (0-6, 0-4), led by Trevor Zyskowski and Jack Redding, who combined for 259 yards on the ground.

Northeast 2B

Colfax 34, Liberty 19: The Bulldogs (6-0, 4-0) scored the game’s first 21 points on three touchdowns from Tyler McNanny and the lead was enough to withstand a late charge by the host Lancers (1-5, 0-3). Devin Fawyers rushed for two TDs in the loss for the Lancers.

Lind-Ritzville 31, Springdale 6: Jake Eichner scored a pair of TDs on 47 yards rushing for the Broncos (2-3, 1-1) in a win over the visiting Chargers (1-4, 0-3).

Northeast 1B

Cusick 61, Curlew 12: Spencer Shanholtzer had his second straight big game for the Panthers (7-0, 6-0), throwing for 308 yards and hitting two targets for four TDs, three coming in the first quarter against the visiting Cougars (0-7, 0-7).

Odessa 40, Sprague-Harrington 6: The Tigers (4-3, 4-3) used 32 unanswered points to put away the Falcons (1-5, 1-5) at Odessa. Jared King threw three TDs, connecting 13 of 24 times for 204 yards for the Tigers.

Columbia 60, Wellpinit 36: The Lions (6-1, 6-1) scored a pair of defensive touchdowns and Cody Flett hooked up three times with receiver Danny Wynne in the end zone against the Redskins (2-4, 2-4) in Wellpinit.

Wilbur-Creston 43, Pateros 28: Logan Jannot rushed for 233 yards and two touchdowns and Dustin Taylor ran for four TDs for the Wildcats (5-2, 5-2) against the visiting Billygoats (3-4, 2-4). The WC defense held the Billygoats to just 10 plays for 20 yards of offense in the second half.

Southeast 2B

Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia 26, Dayton 6: The Nighthawks (2-4, 1-3) secured their first league win of the year against the visiting Bulldogs (0-6, 0-3). After allowing the game’s first touchdown, the Nighthawks rallied to score 26 consecutive points.

Southeast 1B

Colton 52, Sunnyside Christian 7: The unbeaten Wildcats (6-0, 4-0) surged ahead with a 30-point first quarter against the visiting Knights (1-6, 0-4), led by Chase Druffel, who caught two passes for 105 yards, crossing the goal line on both occasions.

Touchet 28, LaCrosse-Washtucna-Kahlotus 26: The Tigercats’ (4-2, 1-2) bid to upend the visiting Indians (3-3, 2-1) fell just short as a lack of conversions after scores hurt them throughout the game. Garret Whitney rushed for 191 yards and two TDs in the loss. Touchet’s Jacob Hodnefield rushed for 136 yards and four TDs.

Non-league

Garfield-Palouse 42, Republic 0: Riley Hodges and J.B. Lang combined for 269 yards rushing and four TDs for the Vikings (2-2), who allowed just 39 yards of offense in a shutout of the visiting Tigers (0-5).

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 36, Valley Christian 24: Dylan Tipps took the ball seven times for 73 yards and three touchdowns for the Warriors (6-1, 5-1) in a home win over the Panthers (0-5).

Columbia Falls 34, Freeman 6: The Scotties (1-5, 1-1) struggled to contain Mitchell Wassum, who scored a pair of rushing touchdowns and also kicked three field goals in Columbia Falls, Mont.

Pomeroy 19, Reardan 14: In a back-and-forth battle that saw the Indians (3-3, 2-1) up one at halftime, Justin Bingman’s 80-yard catch and run from Trevor Koberstein in the third quarter gave the Pirates (3-3, 1-2) the go-ahead and winning, score in Pomeroy.

Tri-Cities Prep 40, St. John-Endicott 12: Will Hoppes threw for 278 yards and four TDs for the Jaguars (4-2, 1-0) and the visiting Eagles (2-5) could not keep pace.

Selkirk 72, Inchelium 28: The Rangers (6-1) defeated the Hornets (1-6, 1-5) in Inchelium. No other information was available.

Intermountain

Timberlake 55, St. Maries 0: The Tigers (6-1, 4-0) took the IML title with a show of force against visiting St. Maries (0-7, 0-4) with a shutout at Spirit Lake.

Five rushers reached the end zone for the Tigers, including two trips for Cody Aery, who also amassed 103 yards on the ground.

Derek Tymessen also rushed for 106 and a score.

Orofino 40, Priest River 21 : Bo Brooks took the load for the Maniacs (4-3, 3-1) against the host Spartans (5-2, 2-2), hauling the ball 22 times for 178 yards and five trips to the end zone. The Spartans’ Greg Powell scored twice on 84 rushing yards, but Orofino made the most of its scoring opportunities.

Bonners Ferry 49, Kellogg 13: The Badgers (4-2, 2-2) built a 28-point lead by halftime and cruised to a victory over the Wildcats (1-6, 1-3) in Bonners Ferry.

North Star

Lakeside 59, Mullan 14: The Knights (3-4, 3-4) made short work of the Tigers (3-4, 2-4), packing all of their scoring into the first half, forcing the mercy rule by intermission in Mullan. Levi Dole rushed for three touchdowns and caught another to lead the Knights.

Wallace 30, Clark Fork 24: Nathan Cook broke the goal line three times on the ground, with the last one giving the Miners (4-3, 4-2) the lead for good in the fourth quarter. Howard Katzenberg tallied 57 yards and three TDs for the Wampus Cats (1-6, 1-6).
