Eagles clinch at least a tie

Chene Cooper scored 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting off the bench and the Eastern Washington women’s basketball team (18-9, 11-3) earned at least a share of the Big Sky Conference title with a 70-56 win over Weber State (9-18, 3-11) Friday in Ogden, Utah.

If the Eagles win at Idaho State tonight, they’ll clinch the outright championship and earn the right to host the conference tournament.

Baseball

Shea Vucinich knocked in the go-ahead run for Washington State (4-0) in the top of the eighth inning and scored the final run the next at-bat on a single by Cody Bartlett as the Cougars came from behind to beat Texas Tech (5-1) 6-3 at the Brooks Wallace Memorial Classic in Lubbock, Texas.

WSU whipped Bethune-Cookman 10-4 (1-5) earlier.

•Sacramento State (3-2) scored six runs in the top of the ninth to upend Gonzaga (2-2) 8-2 at the College Showdown tournament in Peoria, Ariz.

Softball

College of Southern Idaho (19-9, 10-4 SWAC) rode the arm of Generra Nielson in the opener of its doubleheader against North Idaho (16-10, 13-5) and then turned to the bats in the second game, sweeping the Cardinals 2-1, 7-3 in Twin Falls.

Track and field

Princess Joy Griffey’s second-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 24.34 seconds paced Washington State in the first day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Seattle. Leading the men was Kyle Schauble, who completed the first four events of the heptathlon in eighth place with 2,718 points.

•Shene Davis broke the Eastern Washington record in the long jump at 19 feet, 91/2 inches and led a trio of Eagles to earn All-Big Sky honors at the BSC Championships in Bozeman. Erica Chaney (shot put) and Ben Cogdill (pole vault) also earned honors.

Hockey

Chip Petrino scored a pair of goals and the Spokane Braves clinched their KIJHL division semifinal series against Castlegar 3-2 in at Eagles Ice-A-Rena. The Braves trailed the series 2-0 before rallying. They’ll meet either Nelson or Beaver Valley, whose series is tied 3-3.
