‘Greenhorns’ showing Saturday, Sunday
The Greenhorns, a national grassroots nonprofit organization of young farmers, will show the documentary film of the same name Saturday and Sunday at the Magic Lantern Theatre, 25 W. Main Ave.
The film, which documents the re-emergence of the young American farmer, will show at 7 p.m. each night.
Each screening will include a question-and-answer session with the film’s director and young people who are involved in the regional food system in and around Spokane. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the Magic Lantern before each showing.
“The Greenhorns” is directed by farmer/activist Severine von Tscharner Fleming. It was produced in dozens of states over three years and is part of the nonprofit group’s larger campaign for agricultural reform. According to a news release, many of these men and women who are new to farming are thriving despite the trend of farmer attrition and aging, and the continued loss of farmland to development.
The film is 50 minutes long. The Greenhorns nonprofit group is based in the Hudson Valley of New York state. For more information, go to www.thegreenhorns.net.
