Spokane Chiefs’ rally falls shot in loss to Blazers

Interesting. Very interesting. But in the end, the outcome was the same for the Spokane Chiefs. A third straight Western Hockey League road loss.

Kamloops picked up an empty-net goal with 12 seconds left to end a string of three Spokane goals in less than 7 minutes to close out a 6-4 victory in Kamloops, B.C., on Friday night.

Captain Darrin Kramer, who scored in a third straight game, collected two power-play goals. The second, with 1:50 to play and goalie Mac Engel off for an extra attacker and a 6-4 skater advantage, turned a 5-1 deficit into a one-goal game, 5-4.

Reid Gow and Jason Fram scored their first goals of the season 58 seconds apart midway through the third to ignite Spokane’s comeback.

Engel had replaced rookie Zach Rakochy after a rough first period for the 18-year-old. Kamloops scored on three of 15 shots, outshooting Spokane 15-6 in the period.
