Lewiston dominates Clearwater Classic

LEWISTON – Lewiston dominated the field to take the team title at the Clearwater Classic at Lewis-Clark State College Saturday.

Caldwell was second and Freeman and Clarkston tied for third. Sandpoint was fifth. Pullman claimed ninth place.

The Bengals had seven weight-class champions, including Ryan Knapp (98 pounds), Johnny Kenyon (120), Josh Carlton (126), Bryce Parson (132), Zane Madruga (145), Quinton Grimmage (182) and Ryan Rigney (220). Lewiston also had three second-place finishers.

Freeman’s Avery Smetana won the title at 285 pounds, pinning Orofino’s Trevor Hopkins.

Pullman’s Jake Staniszewski took second place at 138 pounds. One of his three victories was a 20-second pin of Freeman’s A.J. Iris.

Freeman’s Dylan Nickerson, who took second place at 98 pounds, was named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler.
