3. D. The program exchanged 968,196 needles in 2011 and expects to hand out more than 1 million clean syringes this year.

4. A. Researchers found that visitors to the continent brought an average of 9.5 seeds, with scientists bringing more than tourists. Scientists worry the seeds could take root and alter the ecosystem of the continent.

5. E. The nation of Kiribati, a Pacific archipelago, is working to buy 6,000 acres on the main island of Fiji as an insurance policy against rising waters that may displace its population.
