Idaho wins, in WAC semis

Putting together one of their best hitting matches of the season, the Idaho Vandals beat Texas State 3-1 on Monday to advance to the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference volleyball tournament.

Second-seeded Idaho (16-13) will face the host school, No. 3 seeded Texas-San Antonio, today at 2 p.m. They split their WAC matches.

Four Vandals compiled double-digit kills as Idaho had its second-highest hitting percentage of the season (.302) in dispatching No. 7 seed Texas State (14-16) 25-14, 21-25, 25-18, 25-21.

Allison (Walker) Baker had a team-high 13 kills and added 11 digs, her sixth consecutive double-double, 21st of the season, and her 45th consecutive match with double-digit kills.

Sophomore Jessica Hastriter came off the bench and had 12 kills. Senior Alex Sele added 11 kills and three blocks, hitting .500, and junior Taylor Wilkinson, filling in for injured first-team All-WAC sophomore Alyssa Schultz, had 10 kills, five blocks, and also hit .500.

“The big thing for our match tonight is we had balance, we had multiple kids involved,” Idaho coach Debbie Buchanan said, adding praise for Hastriter and Wilkinson in the absence of Schultz.

“Both of those kids did an outstanding job.”
