Gingerbread Build-Off

The ninth annual Christ Kitchen Gingerbread Build-Off runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. This year’s theme is “A Christmas Carol.”

Teams will be decorating enormous, previously built gingerbread structures until 1 p.m. Onlookers can watch the decorating and vote for their favorite. It costs $1 to cast a vote, or six votes for $5. Winners will be announced at 4 p.m.

In the Grand Pennington Ballroom, children and adults can decorate graham-cracker houses from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Kits cost $7 and come with candy and frosting.

Proceeds benefit Christ Kitchen, which supports women living in poverty.

The Build-Off event takes place at the Hall of Doges at the Davenport Hotel, 10 S. Post St.

À votre Santé

The downtown Spokane restaurant Santé – French for “health” – has extended its hours, expanded its menu and added a cocktail lounge.

The restaurant is now open for dinner seven nights a week from 5 to 9 p.m. Breakfast and lunch are both available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A new garde manger midday menu features charcuterie and cheeses from 3 to 5 p.m. From 9 p.m. to midnight, a new bar menu features items like a beef knuckle sandwich with Yorkshire pudding or bacon buddies, bone marrow butter on baguettes with sea salt and bacon.

Butcher Bar, the new cocktail lounge just off the main dining area, opened Friday at the restaurant, started in 2008 by the husband-and-wife team of Kate Hansen and executive chef Jeremy Hansen. It’s located at 404 W. Main Ave. For more information or reservations, call (509) 315-4613.

The Christmas- themed cooking class is Dec. 18. It’s part of a series of monthly cooking classes Geving offers at the Blanchard Community Center in Blanchard.
