Basketball roundup: LRS, St. George’s in boys final

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague and St. George’s set up a championship matchup with wins Wednesday at the District 7 2B boys basketball tournament at Mt. Spokane High School.

The Broncos beat Liberty 51-45 in the first semifinal, while the Dragons beat Northwest Christian 73-64 in the second game of the night. LRS and St. George’s will play Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at Mt. Spokane.

Tyler Frederick scored 10 of his 18 points in the third quarter and LRS rallied from a one-point halftime deficit to defeat Liberty.

Frederick took over in the post, helping the Broncos to a eight-point lead through three quarters and 10 midway through the fourth. His basket with 40 seconds remaining turned back a Liberty rally, giving LRS a four-point lead.

Cort Ruzicka had 13 points, nine in the second half, and eight rebounds for the Broncos. Dylan Hartz added 10 points, seven assists and six rebounds.

Match Burnham led Liberty with 32 points and 10 rebounds. The Lancers play Colfax in a consolation-bracket semifinal Friday at 5 p.m. at Mead High School.

St. George’s pulled away with four minutes left to beat Northwest Christian. Ryan Ricks was 7 of 10 from behind the 3-point line and scored 23 points for the Dragons.

Erik Muelheims led the Crusaders with 26 points and Will Tender added 10 rebounds. Northwest Christian next plays Davenport in a consolation-bracket semifinal Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Mead.

At Mead High School, Kasey Johnson scored 21 points to lead Colfax to a 53-41 victory over Reardan in a loser-out game. The Bulldogs shot 18 of 21 from the free-throw line in the win.

Davenport beat Springdale 54-44 in another loser-out game at Mead. Max Mielke, Austin Zellar and Wyatt Evers scored 11 points each for the Gorillas. Austin Prouty led Springdale with 13 points.

Girls

Colfax and Northwest Christian will play Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Mt. Spokane to determine the champion of the District 7 2B girls basketball tournament.

The Bulldogs beat Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 66-50 at Mt. Spokane. Amara Huber led Colfax with a double-double, scoring 29 points with 11 rebounds. Nicole Sheer also added five steals along with her 13 points in the win.

The Crusaders defeated Davenport 60-47 at Mt. Spokane. Northwest Christian was led by Rachel Bozlee with 19 points, and Chanel Knight added eight rebounds. Kylee Watkins led the Gorillas with 14 points.

Elisha Smith scored 14 points to lead Springdale over Liberty 43-26 in a loser-out game at Mead.

Springdale will meet Davenport on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Mead.

LRS will face St. George’s on Friday at 8 p.m. at Mead. The Dragons beat Reardan 40-29 in a loser-out game at Mead.
