Duck decoy carver shares work, lecture as part of Jundt series

From Staff Reports

Duck decoy carver Frank Werner will give a free public lecture today at the Jundt Art Museum.

An exhibition of Werner’s work will be on display at the Gonzaga University museum through Sept. 13, part of its “Close-In” series.

Werner, who lives in St. Maries, is a retired U.S. Marines Corps master sergeant whose carvings have been featured in dozens of shows.

In a news release from Gonzaga, Werner described his decoys as “strongly gridded, post-modern pieces,” but emphasized that they’re utilitarian first.

“Duck decoys are meant to deceive,” he said.

The lecture will begin at 4 p.m. in the auditorium at the museum, 202 E. Cataldo Ave.
