In Brief: Boil-water order issued after E. coli bacteria detected

The Washington state Department of Health has warned homeowners who get their water from Pasadena Park Water District 17 in Spokane Valley to boil their water after E. coli bacteria were detected in the water system.

The district serves about 2,300 homes and businesses in an area about 2 miles east and 2 miles west of Argonne Road north of the Spokane River and south of Stoneman Road. Any water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice or washing dishes should be boiled, according to a news release from the health department.

The water district is currently running large amounts of chlorine through the water system. Residents should run their taps for 15 minutes to help the chlorinated water move through the system. Because of the bleaching effects of heavy chlorination, residents should also use caution when running a clothes washer.

The boil order is expected to last through the weekend and will be lifted once no more E. coli bacteria are detected. Once the water is safe to drink, residents should again run their faucets to flush out the excess chlorine.

Anyone with questions can contact the water district at (509) 926-5535 or the Department of Health at (360) 236-3162.

Fourth of July weekend Sasquatch! canceled

A second Sasquatch! Music Festival weekend scheduled over the Fourth of July weekend has been canceled due to low ticket sales, promoters announced Friday.

The Memorial Day music festival at the Gorge Amphitheatre near Quincy, Wash., will continue as planned, a news release said. It noted there are still passes available for that concert weekend.

Refunds for credit card purchases of passes for the Fourth of July weekend will be issued by Ticketmaster. Half the purchase price will be refunded to those who bought passes to both weekends. For more information, call Ticketmaster at (800) 745-3000.

“The Sasquatch! community has spoken. They continue to support the traditional Memorial Day Weekend event with great enthusiasm. Unfortunately, the second weekend was not embraced,” according to the news release.
