Pac-12 football: Hail Mary sends Arizona to win over Cal

Anu Solomon hit Austin Hill on a 47-yard Hail Mary pass on the game’s final play and the Arizona Wildcats scored 36 points in the fourth quarter to pull off an improbable 49-45 win over the California Golden Bears on Saturday night in Tucson, Arizona.

Cal (2-1, 0-1 Pac-12) threatened to turn Arizona’s whiteout into a blowout, deflating the Wildcats and their white-shirt-wearing fans with two quick scores and a 22-point halftime lead.

Arizona (4-0, 1-0) charged back behind Solomon, who threw for 520 yards and had four of his five touchdown passes in the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats recovered an onside kick after Cal was called for a batting penalty and pulled within 2 after Solomon hit Cayleb Jones on a 15-yard scoring pass.

Arizona got the ball back with less than a minute left and pulled off the miracle when Hill brought the ball down between five Golden Bears defenders.

Utah 26, Michigan 10: Travis Wilson returned after a frightening fall in the first half to throw a third-quarter TD pass, and the Utes (3-0) finally finished off a win over the Wolverines (2-2) after a lightning delay in the fourth quarter of 2 hours, 24 minutes in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Wilson left the game in the second quarter after he tried to leap over a Michigan defender and landed on his head.

Oregon State 28, San Diego State 7: Sean Mannion threw for 275 yards to set a new Oregon State record and lead the Beavers (3-0) to a lopsided win over the Aztecs (1-2) in Corvallis, Oregon.

Mannion’s passing yards gave him 11,339 for his career, pulling him in front of Derek Anderson atop the Beavers’ career list, and into third place on the Pac-12 all-time list behind USC’s Matt Barkley (12,274) and Carson Palmer (11,818).

Terron Ward and Storm Woods each rushed for two TDs for the Beavers, who open the season 3-0 for the fifth time since 1999.

Colorado 21, Hawaii 12: Junior Nelson Spruce caught a school record 13 passes for a career-best 172 yards, including a 71-yard TD to lift the Buffaloes (2-2) over the Rainbow Warriors (1-3) in Boulder, Colorado.
