Where’s Waldos’? Right here

It’s no secret there’s a fair amount of overlap between craft beer culture and pot culture (particularly in Colorado and Washington these days).

That’s something Lagunitas is celebrating today, which is 4/20 – the longstanding stoner code for toking up – with its annual Waldos’ Special Ale (11.1 percent alcohol by volume, 100 International Bitterness Units).

While the recipe changes from year to year, Lagunitas (which once was a bit too weed-friendly for its own good) bills it as “the dankest, hoppiest brew we make … Herbaceous. Botanical. Resinous.”

Look for it on tap today throughout the Growler Guys chain, including the Spokane stores on the South Hill and Newport Highway .

It’s also pouring at Manito Tap House , and at Post Street Ale House – along with Lagunitas’ regular IPA, Sucks imperial IPA, Undercover Shutdown strong ale and ScareCity #3 imperial coffee stout – as part of a tap takeover, with brewery reps on hand from 4 to 8 p.m.

As for the name, despite what you might have heard about police radio codes or Hitler’s birthday, the Waldos were the ones who came up with the whole 4/20 deal – which you can read more about here , or watch a rather colorful video interview, courtesy of Lagunitas, here .
