UPDATE WEDNESDAY 8/26
– Today’s weekly small-batch releases are a pair of big ones: a Belgian strong dark ale (12 percent alcohol by volume) at Iron Goat , and an imperial stout (10.5) brewed with house-smoked grain and conditioned over smoked, bourbon-soaked oak chips at Daft Badger in Coeur d’Alene.
UPDATE TUESDAY 8/25
– Hills’ Restaurant and Lounge has snagged some of the big, fruity Deschutes Black Butte XXVII anniversary imperial porter and is pouring it alongside last year’s XXVI, while the limited supply of the latter lasts.
– Twelve String on Wednesday will release some of last year’s imperial red Volume 3 Anniversary Ale aged in Woodford Reserve bourbon barrels.
A look ahead at the upcoming week in local craft beer:
– Saison du Buff – a collaboration between Stone, Victory and Dogfish Head brewed with parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme – will be pouring at brewer’s nights today starting at 5 at Republic Pi , and Tuesday at 6 at The Blackbird , along with other offerings from Victory and Stone.
– Orlison, which just opened its downtown taproom , hosts the first in a series of “Community Pint” nights Tuesday starting at 5 p.m., with $1 from each pint sold going to a different local organization each month. First up is SpokeFest , which promotes bicycling throughout the area.
– A different brewery will be featured each day from Wednesday through Sunday as part of the North Idaho Fair , at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds in Coeur d’Alene: No-Li, Laughing Dog, Bale Breaker, Wallace and Big Sky. The tastings run from 4 to 7 p.m. in Building 4, with $3 pints of two different styles.
– Old World-style herbal ales from Port Townsend’s Propolis Brewing will be featured in a tasting Wednesday at 3:30 at Pilgrim’s in Coeur d’Alene.
– Nectar Wine and Beer in Kendall Yards will pair six IPAs – Pfriem, Almanac, Victory Wild Devil (with brettanomyces), Stone Points Unknown, Green Flash Mosaic Session IPA and Sierra Nevada Neomexicanus Wild Hop IPA – with artisan cheeses on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Cost is $10.
– Pints Alehouse hosts a Stone Ruination Nation event Thursday at 6 p.m. featuring five IPAs from the hop-forward San Diego-area brewery: Ruination 2.0 double IPA, oak-aged Ruination, RuinTen triple IPA, the Points Unknown double IPA collaboration with Ecliptic and Wicked Weed, and the new 19th-anniversary Thunderstruck double IPA, intensely aromatic and flavorful from all-Australian hops. Also look for the 2014 Quadrotriticale barrel-aged quad, with special pricing on all.
– Five beers from Ninkasi – Oktoberfest Lager, Maiden the Shade summer IPA, Total Domination IPA, Dawn of the Red IRA and Oatis oatmeal stout – will be featured in a tasting Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the South Hill Growler Guys .
– The Kegs & Corks festival, Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Best Western Plus University Inn in Moscow, offers unlimited samples from several area wineries and breweries – including hometown Moscow Brewing and Pullman’s Paradise Creek – for $25, along with live music and light appetizers.
– A half-dozen beers from Ellensburg’s Iron Horse will be poured in a tasting Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bottles in Millwood: High Five Hefe, Light Rail cream ale, Koytus Dutch-style oatmeal pale, Finger Gun session IPA, the ninth-anniversary Disruptor IPA and Irish Death dark strong ale.
– And if you want a bit of education along with your imbibing, the Cheney Historical Society is hosting a “Book & Brews” book signing for Joan Mamankis’ pictorial history “Images of America Cheney” on Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the town’s first brewery in 105 years, New Boundary .
