Brewer’s dozens
Capone’s perennial 12 Ales of Christmas party has come and gone for another year, but the spirit lives on.
Both Manito Tap House and The Filling Station on 5th are putting their own new takes on the traditional holiday dozen, in different ways.
In Coeur d’Alene, the Filling Station has been pouring a dozen beers from Colorado’s acclaimed Odell Brewing (not available in Washington) all month.
Those include a couple new to the area – Easy Street Wheat and Levity Amber – along with the flagship 90 Shilling Scottish; the regular, Myrcenary double and Mountain Standard double black IPAs; Cutthroat Porter; Isolation winter warmer; two sours, the pineapple Pina Agria and cherry/raspberry Friek; and a pair of barrel-aged offerings, the rum barrel Russian Pirate imperial stout and bourbon barrel Oak Haven strong peach ale.
On Friday starting at 6 p.m., they’ll be paired with food selections from adjoining sister business Scratch Bistro in a Twelve Beers of Christmas event (beer and food items sold separately) that also will include live music by Wyatt Wood.
Manito, meanwhile, launches its Twelve Beers of Christmas on Saturday, with a different barrel-aged rarity tapped each day at 6 p.m. through Dec. 23.
The list (in no particular order) includes this year’s Goose Island Bourbon County Stout; The Bruery’s 2014 Sucre strong anniversary ale; Fremont’s 2015 First Nail imperial stout; Avery’s 2014 Tweak imperial coffee stout; Bear Republic’s Tartare Rouge sour red; Firestone Walker’s 2015 Sucaba and 2012 Double DBA barleywines; North Coast’s 2013 Old Stock Cellar Reserve strong ale; Boulevard’s 2014 Rye on Rye; Fremont’s 2014 Kentucky Dark Star imperial stout, and 2015 Bourbon Abombinable with coffee and cinnamon; and Almanac’s Simcoe Sour.
You’ll have to show up each day to find out what’s pouring. Trick or treat!
