Into the Abyss, and beyond

One of the Northwest’s finest breweries will be pouring some of its finest beers Saturday at one of Spokane’s finest taphouses.

The Deschutes night at Pints Alehouse runs from 5 to 9 p.m., with a lineup including:

- The 2012, 2013 and 2014 releases of the much-loved The Abyss imperial stout (11 percent alcohol by volume, 86 International Bitterness Units), brewed with molasses, licorice, vanilla beans and cherry bark.

- Two vintages – XXV (2013) and XXVI (2014) – of the imperial barrel-aged version of Black Butte porter. The XXV (11.3, 64) was made with dates, figs, black currants and cacao nibs, and lightly soured; the XXVI (10.8) added pomegranate molasses and cranberries to the chocolate.

- Mirror Mirror barleywine (11.2, 53), 50 percent aged in three different Oregon wine varietal barrels.

- Not the Stoic (12.1, 15), a Belgian-style quad with pomegranate molasses, aged in pinot noir and rye whiskey barrels.

- Doppel Dinkel Bock (10.5, 17), a Bavarian-style collaboration with Germany’s Distelhauser that uses spelt (dinkel) along with the traditional wheat malt.

Look for special pricing and opportunities to snag free schwag from a brewery rep. (And yes, the Zags and Seahawks games will be on the tube, if all that beer isn’t enough to hold your attention.)
