Indians lose in ninth inning after rallying for tie

BOISE – The excitement generated by the Spokane Indians’ ninth-inning rally lasted just a few minutes Saturday night.

Luis Castro’s two-out single to right field in the bottom of the ninth scored Carlos Herrera as the Boise Hawks edged the Indians 4-3 to open a five-game Northwest League series at Memorial Stadium.

Spokane tied the game at 3 in the top of the ninth when Tyler Sanchez hit a no-out, two-run homer to left field after Sherman Lacrus led off with a double.

The Hawks (11-19) won their third consecutive game after dropping eight of nine. Spokane (14-16), which had been 4-1 against Boise this season, lost for the seventh time in nine games to remain three games behind North Division-leading Everett (17-13) with eight games left in the first half.
