Obituary: Wicklund, Ronnie Allan (Ron)

Age 81

WICKLUND, Ronnie Allan (Ron) Ronnie was born September 13, 1933 and passed away on March 7, 2015 of natural causes at age 81.

He is survived by his son, Paul Wicklund and his wife Samantha, daughter Debbie Wicklund both of Mead; sisters Patty Horne of Spokane; and Glory Wicklund and her husband Keith White of Sacramento; granddaughter Kayleigh Houghton of Norwich, England; numerous nieces and nephews, but was very close to niece Cindi Matsumoto, nephew Nathan Matsumoto, and grandniece Kenzi Matsumoto of Sacramento; and extended family members Charlene Parker and Terri Clarke of Spokane.

Ronnie was raised in Mead, WA where he lived the majority of his life.

He attended Mead High School where he excelled in sports, and later attended Whitworth College before joining the Army during the Korean War.

Upon his return, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Mickelson, and returned to farming with his father on Peone Prairie.

He drove school bus for the Mead district for 17 years.

He later became a realtor and worked in construction for several years with his son Paul.

Upon “retirement” he spent the next two years building a house for his daughter Debbie.

Ronnie was an avid WSU Cougars fan and enjoyed sports of all kinds.

Farming never left his blood as he enjoyed gardening, and helping his children on their small farms with anything that needed doing.

He could often be found weeding, watering and mowing the several acres surrounding their homes.

The riding lawn mower was often referred to as his second vehicle.

He was a kind and gentle man who always put the needs of his family and friends above his own.

We will all dearly miss him and feel extremely lucky to have had him in our lives.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 16 at 1pm at the Peone Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Peone Cemetery, E. 8305 Greenbluff Rd., Colbert, WA 99005.
