Obituary: Ranniger, Edward G.

Age 84

RANNIGER, Edward G. June 13, 1931 - September 11, 2015 With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a wonderful man — a loving, generous, and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Born June 13, 1931, Edward lived life to the fullest.

He grew up in the Spokane Valley and attended CVHS where he met the love of his life Joyce, whom he married in June 1951.

Ed and Joyce recently celebrated their 64th anniversary!

In 1952 Ed was shipped to Guam, where he spent 18 months in the US Navy Construction Forces (Seabees).

After returning to the Inland Norrthwest, he settled into the Asphalt Paving business, eventually acquiring partial ownership of United Paving.

He was an incredibly hard worker providing his family with a wonderful life including many years on the slopes at Schweitzer from the late 60s to early 80s.

The cross for the Schweitzer Chapel was bulilt in Ed’s shop; he then assisted in its placement on the chapel at the mountain.

He spent countless hours supporting his children and then his grandchildren’s numerous athletic endeavors.

Edward was not averse to risk, taking up flying just so he could get places faster — to both work and play.

Edward is a Past President of Manito Golf & Country Club.

In the early 90s he and Joyce became snowbirds so they could enjoy golf year-round in Palm Desert.

This past year he and Joyce moved to Garden Plaza of Post Falls where he made many wonderful new friends.

He was grateful for all of the friendships he made throughout his life and for the wonderful staff members of Garden Plaza whom he love d to tease.

He will be missed by many!

Edward passed away on September 11, 2015.

He is survived by his wife HJoyce (Beck) Ranniger; his two children Greg Ranniger and Ann Byers (John Demakas,); grandchildren Emma Kate Ranniger and Tyler (Analee Olsen), Joseph and Ryan Byers; brother Duane Ranniger (Deanna); sister Joan Erion (Bob) and many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.

Services in Ed’s honor will be held on Saturday, September 19th at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Spokane.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of North Idaho or the Spokane Guilds’ School.
