Spin some suds
Dogfish Head is again celebrating national Record Store Day on Saturday with events around the country, including a couple in Spokane.
The quirky Delaware brewery – with its longstanding slogan, “Analog Beer for the Digital Age” – last year was named the official beer for the annual event, which features dozens of special vinyl releases at participating independent music stores.
In honor of the occasion, Dogfish Head last year issued its own vinyl/CD compilation called “Music to Drink Beer To.”
This year, it’s a liquid release, Beer to Drink Music To . The Belgian-style tripel (9 percent alcohol by volume, 30 International Bitterness Units) is made with ingredients inspired by some of the brewery crew’s favorite songs: orange peel (“Orange Crush,” R.E.M.), peppercorns (“Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” The Beatles), candi sugar (“Sugar on My Tongue,” Talking Heads) and cardamom (“Mock Song,” Phish).
That will be pouring along with a seasonal IPA – Romantic Chemistry (7.2, 40), with mango, apricot and ginger – during Record Store Day parties at Manito Tap House on Friday from 10 p.m. to midnight and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and at The Lantern Tap House on Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
DJs will be on hand at both places spinning vinyl (throughout the parties at Manito, DJ Lydell at the Lantern starting at 6), including any records customers might care to bring in themselves.
Manito also will serve a rare local offering of the huge 120 Minute IPA (approaching 20 percent alcohol by volume), and a 2014 reserve of the equally large World Wide Stout . The Lantern is pulling out some of last year’s Olde School Barleywine , another heavy hitter.
Get a raffle ticket with each Dogfish Head purchase for drawings Saturday (3 p.m. at Manito, 8 at The Lantern) to win one of the brewery’s signature Crosley portable turntables , to keep the party going wherever you might end up next.
