Your weekly roundup
Some odds and ends from the past week in local craft beer:
– Lager specialist Orlison, which has been experimenting with small-batch ales, now has a big-batch production IPA scheduled to arrive April 1; keep an eye out here for further details as they’re available.
Meanwhile, the brewery’s seasonal Toasted Dragon – an Asian-inspired lager with lime, Thai basil, Szechuan peppercorns and ginger – should reach the market in 22-ounce bottles soon.
– No-Li has released its new spring seasonal, Komrade imperial IPA (8 percent alcohol by volume, 70 International Bitterness Units), hopped with Amarillo, Comet and El Dorado. Look for it on tap now at the pub, and in bombers next month.
And No-Li is collaborating with Cravens Coffee on a cold-pressed coffee that will be served on nitro at the pub beginning April 1.
– Bellwether has teamed up with the 40 Below dessert shop for a non-alcoholic, stout-flavored snow fluff made with unfermented wort. They’ve also been testing an IPA version.
– Post Falls Brewing , on Spokane Street north of the river near Templin’s, has announced an opening date of April 22.
– Finally, while I’m still in Mr. Cranky Pants mode (see last Saturday’s green beer rant ), I couldn’t help but wince when I saw a local brewery post about the pleasures of drinking its IPA “ice cold.” That’s fine if you’re into sharp bitterness, but for a fuller flavor profile, it’s best to let it warm up a bit – ideally, to around 45-50 degrees (preferred serving temperatures vary by style ).
And no, we’re not suggesting that you carry a thermometer; just experiment a little to find out what’s right for your palate.
