State 4A softball: Snohomish champ, Richland third
Freshman Emily Garza delivered a sharp bases-loaded, one-out single to right field to score courtesy runner Meghan Calloway from third base and give Richland a 2-1, nine-inning victory over Jackson for third place in the State 4A softball tournament Saturday at the Dwight Merkel Complex.
It was Richland’s fifth straight victory, three of them Saturday, after losing its opener on Friday.
Sophomore Joy Winston went 3 for 4 with four RBIs, three on a fourth-inning home run that highlighted a five-running for the Panthers that broke open a tie game and send Snohomish to an 8-6 win over perennial contender Woodinville for the championship.
Olivia Riener and Skylar Hein hit three-run homers for Woodinville.
