Before the fall
For the 24th year, Schweitzer Mountain Resort is marking the end of summer with its Fall Fest from Saturday through Monday.
And in keeping with the calendar, autumn seasonals account for several selections among the record list of 90 beers and ciders from area producers and beyond.
For pumpkin fans, there’s the likes of MickDuff’s Mashing Pumpkin, Elysian’s Night Owl and Ballast Point’s Pumpkin Down. Or try Alaskan’s replacement for its previous fall pumpkin porter, Heritage Coffee Brown.
Also look for traditional Oktoberfest lagers from Odell, Firestone Walker and Sierra Nevada, as well as Deschutes’ new Hopzeit, a hopped-up IPA version of the style.
Or if you want to hang on to a last taste of summer, there’s the Cucumber Crush sour from 10 Barrel, Green Flash’s Passion Fruit Kicker and Wallace’s Huckleberry Shandy.
Then there’s the usual slew of IPAs, plus everything else from Oskar Blues’ delicate Priscilla wit to Green Flash’s Dia de los Serranos spicy chile stout.
Admission is free; tasting packages run from $12 for a 6.75-ounce glass up to $35 for a 19-ounce stainless steel cup or 20-ounce ceramic mug, all including your first three drink tokens (you can see the choices here , though presales have ended). Extra tokens are $5 each, or two for $9.
Wine also will be available, along with a soda tent for the kids plus food and crafts vendors.
Live music will be provided by Mama Doll at 11 a.m., Cattywomp at 1 p.m. and Rust on the Rails at 3 p.m. on Saturday; Spare Parts at 11, The Incredible Flying Dookie Brothers at 1 and Devon Wade at 3:30 on Sunday; and The Marshall McLean Band at 11 and the Journey tribute band Stone in Love at 2:30 on Monday.
Complimentary buses will run up and down the hill from the parking lot to the village every 30 minutes on Saturday and Sunday, with the first bus up at 10:30 a.m. and the last bus down at 7:30 p.m.
And for the more adventurous, lift tickets will be sold at 20 percent discounts for sightseeing, hiking and mountain biking.
