Spokane Indians commit three errors in shutout loss to AquaSox

By Johnathan Curley For The Spokesman-Review

EVERETT – Chris Torres’ sixth inning, bases-clearing double highlighted an offensive explosion for the Everett AquaSox in a 8-0 win over the Spokane Indians (9-4, 25-26) in the first of a three-game Northwest League series on Tuesday.

Everett starter Randy Bell threw four shutout innings and gave up three hits, no walks, and struck out four. Reliever Michael Suarez (6-2) tossed four shutout innings on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

While the AquaSox (6-7, 23-28) were retired on just four pitches by Spokane starter Tyler Phillips in the second inning, they struck for two runs in the third, including Ronald Rosario’s sixth home run of the season.

In the sixth, Juan Camacho added to Everett’s lead with a two-run single, which closed the book on Phillips.

Phillips in total surrendered five runs – three earned – on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts in five innings.

Argenis Rodriguez took over with a runner on second base and no outs. Rodriguez induced a ground ball double play, which appeared to put an end to the threat.

However, a hit-by-pitch and two walks loaded the bases for Torres, who unloaded the bases with his fourth double of the season and an 8-0 lead. It marked the sixth run off just three hits in the inning.

Rodriguez recovered the next inning and struck out the side in the seventh.

Scott Kuzminsky set down the Indians in order in the ninth to close it out.

Overall, fielding issues and inability to to deliver haunted the Indians, as they committed three errors and went 0 for 9 with runners in scoring position.

The teams play again on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
