Felon who lived 17 years in North Idaho under assumed name pleads guilty to gun charge

A former fugitive from Florida, who lived nearly 17 years under an assumed name in a hamlet north of Sandpoint, pleaded guilty Tuesday to a felon in possession of firearms.

Eric L. Corbett, 45, of Elmira, pleaded guilty as part of a case in which locals had known Corbett as Jubal Burke. He took that name after his 2000 release from a federal prison in Alabama following a 1997 conviction for intimidation of a witness.

However, Corbett skipped out on supervised release and instead began farming in North Idaho under the name Jubal Burke until his arrest last September.

In 2015, he married Stacy White, who is the regional supervisor of child protective services for the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. White attended the hearing Tuesday.

According to previous court testimony, Corbett faces between 15 and 21 months in prison at his upcoming sentencing.
