Morning prep roundup: As postseason play grips the region, state wrestling and district basketball continue this weekend

Boys basketball: Freeman continued its undefeated season by beating Lakeside 57-41 en route to the state regional tournament. Jimmie Pierce led four Scotties in double figures with 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Led by Jake Wells, Pullman cruises by West Valley 58-47 for District 7 championship.

Girls basketball: Jayda Noble scored 12 points and Medical Lake (21-0) defeated Lakeside (16-6) 54-33 on Wednesday in the District 7 1A championship game at West Valley HS on Wednesday.

District 8 4A/3A basketball: The Spokane Arena is hosting the tournament for the first time and the District 8 is thrilled about the changes.

The Greater Spokane League will battle other GSL schools as well as a few from the Mid-Columbia Conference to determine regional playoff matchups.

Idaho girls state preview: Girls basketball in Idaho is preparing for state tournaments throughout the state and at the forefront is Melody Kempton, the star for Post Falls and the Gonzaga women’s basketball recruit.

North Idaho is represented by six teams this weekend. Check out the Idaho State Tournament preview.

Wrestling: State wrestling begins Friday as Mead is sending eight wrestlers to battle the rest of the 4A schools. Led by Chase Tebbets and Chase Randall, the Panthers are ranked sixth in the state heading into state.

But the Spokane-area schools are well-represented this weekend as a whole. Here’s the preview for the weekend.
